About me
About Me
Hello, and thank you for visiting my profile.
My name is Reece Byrne, and much of the work I do today is shaped by my own personal journey through addiction and recovery. Before I trained as a counsellor, I faced my own struggles with addiction — an experience that left me feeling lost, isolated, and disconnected from both myself and those around me. Finding my way out of that place wasn’t easy, but it gave me a deep understanding of what it means to suffer, to feel stuck, and to rebuild life from the ground up.
It was through my own recovery that I discovered my passion for supporting others. Over the past 16 years, I have counselled individuals from many different backgrounds, specialising in addiction, trauma, and emotional wellbeing. For more than 10 years, I have also worked as a clinical supervisor, supporting other therapists in their own professional journeys.
I am an integrative therapist, which means I don’t believe in a “one-size-fits-all” approach. Instead, I draw on a range of therapeutic models — including Transactional Analysis, Psychodrama, Person-Centred Therapy, and Psychodynamic approaches — while always grounding my work in empathy, honesty, and respect.
I currently work full time as a Clinical Supervisor (9–5), and I offer counselling and supervision in the evenings (Monday to Friday) as well as on Saturday mornings.
Training & Qualifications
Alongside my lived experience, I have undertaken extensive professional training since qualifying as a counsellor in 2009, including:
Trauma work
Coaching
Mindfulness (accredited practitioner)
Motivational Interviewing
Teacher training (CERT/ED) – Huddersfield University
Clinical Supervision – Certificate from the Manchester Institute of Transactional Analysis
Leadership & Management – Level 5
Areas I Work With

Addiction & recovery
Trauma & PTSD
Anger & emotional regulation
Anxiety & depression

My Approach
I believe therapy works best when it feels real and human. My personal journey taught me that while change is never easy, it is possible with the right support. I know what it feels like to sit on the other side of the room — to feel overwhelmed, ashamed, or uncertain about the future. That’s why my approach is simple: to create a space where you can be honest, feel understood, and begin to make sense of what’s going on.
My role is to help you reconnect with yourself, rebuild your confidence, and discover new ways forward. Together, we can work towards a life where you feel more connected, empowered, and in control.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
