About me

I am a qualified relational, humanistic counsellor and psychotherapist with a degree based in Transactional Analysis.

Transactional Analysis is a model which focuses on how we interact with others as well as how we see see ourselves, others and the world. By reflecting on our thinking, feeling and behaviours we can address those aspects which are blocking us from being able to address current difficulties or perhaps from achieving our potential.

I will share this knowledge with you where it would be helpful, to enable you to develop tools that you can use in everyday life beyond the completion of our work.

I am trained and experienced in addiction, gambling, substance misuse, depression, anxiety, self-harm, grief/loss, OCD, isolation, anger, trauma, developmental/early relational trauma, working relationships, abusive and coercive relationships.

As a therapist I am privileged to work with and welcome people from all backgrounds as part of our shared humanity.  Equality, Diversity, Inclusion (EDI) in therapy helps ensure I am working legally, ethically and equitably, enabling me to support people who experience personal challenges without judgement or bias.

My approach is collaborative based in my belief that each person has their own inner knowing and wisdom. However sometimes we need an independent trained person to assist us.

Humanistic therapy focuses on health whilst acknowledging that our lives today are influenced by our past experience. This includes the result of a past trauma or a major event often associated with loss of some kind.

It also includes the way we have developed a view of who we are and our ability to deal with life in general, plus difficulties that come our way. Sometimes that includes a belief that we should be able to manage or cope with everything on our own without showing too much emotion

I understand problems in living can be difficult and can feel at times overwhelming. During these periods we may feel lonely and isolated.  I believe it takes great courage to allow yourself to acknowledge that you are struggling and to ask for help.  Seeking a counsellor is an important step and I hope this search begins a process at the end of which, you feel more peaceful and in control of your personal world.

I offer a confidential, nurturing, safe, non judgemental space for you to talk through the things that are troubling you, and help you think about what might make life easier.  I can provide counselling to individuals who are 18 and over.

I work in a relational way, which means I value the relationship we build.  I will aim to build a strong, honest and trusting relationship with you, so together we might find some new ways for you to manage, or change the difficulties that have led you to seek help and support.

I run my private practice from an idyllic location near Chard, Somerset.  I work from an  office in my home which is private and confidential.  My location is accessible off the A358 with free parking.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
