About me

Everyone - without exception - will face pain and uncertainty at some point in their life. I am here to provide the space for you to access that vital connection within yourself and focus attention on whatever is arising.

You may want to develop a deeper and compassionate understanding of yourself and improve your capacity for interpersonal relationships. Perhaps you want to work through disturbing past events and free yourself from symptoms such as anxiety, depression and low self-esteem.

My approach is trauma-informed and is underpinned by an enduring trust that human beings have a natural and unstoppable instinct towards growth. You already have everything needed within you, and it is my wish to support you in a process of identifying and letting go whatever is getting in the way of you fully living your precious life. I believe anxiety and depression are languages of the body and mind. By listening to what these parts are trying to tell us we can return home to a more peaceful relationship with ourselves.

I am particularly interested in working with grief, intergenerational trauma and betrayal trauma.

Training, qualifications & experience

As a fully qualified person-centred therapist, I am interested in creating a genuine relationship with you to explore together whatever will be most useful for you at this time.

I am currently developing my practice in EMDR (eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing), which is a specialised trauma therapy. I may bring elements of this way of working to the sessions, if appropriate. This can include guidance on how trauma impacts our lives and strategies to overcome this such as relaxation techniques, breath work and guided visualisations.

My professional background: Before I trained in counselling and psychotherapy I was an Anthropologist and I have a PhD in the subject area of trauma, medicalisation and militarisation. I have engaged in long-term research with veterans, members of the armed forces, and their families. I have also worked in the Arts and in the International NGO sector spending periods of time overseas. I bring all 40 years of my life experience to the work.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

I know that starting therapy can be challenging, especially at a time of crisis. Finding the right therapist is very important. I offer an initial session with no obligation to continue working with me. If you can, I recommend you meet with other therapists before making a decision so you find the right fit for you.

Arrange an initial introductory session:

  • Contact me via the Email me button at the top of this page
  • Set out potential days and times that will best suit you for an initial online or telephone meeting
  • If you would like to note what is bringing you to therapy please do, but this is not necessary
  • We will arrange an initial 50 minute consultation for a discounted rate of £25
  • During this meeting I will explain a bit more about myself and my practice and ask you some questions including what you hope to get from therapy. I will answer any questions you may have
  • If you would like to set up more sessions, then we can arrange a regular time slot going forward
