About me

Hello and welcome. My name is Novena-Chanel, and I am an integrative Counsellor, Clinical Supervisor, Counselling Lecturer, Life Coach, Yoga Teacher, Reiki Master and Wellbeing Consultant. I have over seventeen years of experience working with counselling clients, supporting individuals and couples in navigating life’s challenges and achieving emotional wellbeing. My work is rooted in a compassionate, relational, and research-driven approach, tailored to meet the unique needs of each person or organisation I work with.

Who I Work With
I specialise in helping individuals and couples overcome low self-esteem, emotional abuse, childhood sexual and physical abuse, affairs and betrayal, and relationship or family breakdowns. I also work with clients exploring sexuality, identity, neurodivergence, anxiety, and stress. My therapeutic approach is holistic, integrating mind, body, and relational dynamics to support deep and lasting change.

My Professional Background
I have worked extensively across the NHS, private practice, and the charity sector, delivering therapy in both clinical and community settings. My experience includes roles at Solace Women’s Aid, London Friend, The Women and Girls Network, and numerous other well-respected organisations. In addition to my work as a therapist, I provide Clinical Supervision for professionals at charities such as Victim Support, Nia, and RAPt, helping practitioners navigate the complexities of their own client work.

With over twenty years of experience across the public, private, and third sectors, I bring a multi-layered understanding of trauma, identity, and systemic challenges, ensuring that individuals and organisations receive expert guidance tailored to their specific needs.

My Approach – Integrative and Trauma-Informed
As a registered Integrative Counsellor, I draw from a range of therapeutic approaches to create a personalised and effective plan that meets each client's unique needs. My approach is rooted in a deep understanding of trauma, identity, and relational dynamics, ensuring that therapy provides both insight and practical strategies for healing and growth. Below is an overview:

Psychodynamic Therapy – Exploring past experiences and unconscious patterns that shape behaviour, helping clients understand how early life experiences influence their present emotions and relationships.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) – Identifying and reframing limiting thoughts and behaviours, offering structured tools to manage anxiety, stress, and emotional regulation.
Transactional Analysis (TA) – Understanding relational dynamics and communication patterns, helping clients improve interactions and build healthier relationships.
Attachment Theory – Acknowledging early attachment styles and their impact on present relationships, offering insights into trust, intimacy, and emotional connection.
Intercultural Therapy – Addressing race, identity, and systemic influences on mental health, ensuring therapy is culturally responsive and inclusive.
Integrative Epigenetic Relational Approach (IERA-Therapy™) – Understanding the epigenetic, emotional, and psychological effects of trauma, particularly its intergenerational transmission, and developing strategies for healing at both an individual and systemic level.

By integrating these approaches, I provide a holistic and tailored therapeutic experience, supporting clients in self-discovery, emotional regulation, and long-term personal growth.

Founder of ERTAcademy & Creator of IERA-Therapy™
Beyond my counselling practice, I am the founder of the Epigenetic Relational Therapy Academy (ERTAcademy) and the creator of Integrative Epigenetic Relational Approach™ (IERA-Therapy™). This pioneering trauma model integrates epigenetics, neuroscience, and relational psychotherapy to support individuals, families, and professionals in healing from trauma and intergenerational patterns.

As The Equilibrium Coach, my work extends beyond individual therapy, providing training, consultancy, and research support for organisations on topics such as trauma, race, identity, and stress management. I am passionate about bridging the gap between scientific research, therapeutic practice, and organisational wellbeing, ensuring that healing is accessible on both personal and systemic levels.

How I Can Support You
Whether you are an individual seeking personal healing, a couple looking to strengthen your relationship, or an organisation in need of expert guidance on trauma, identity, and mental health, I am here to help. My work is rooted in a deep understanding of human resilience, and I am committed to helping my clients find balance, empowerment, and lasting change.

What type of Therapy is best for you?

There are lots of different types of therapy to choose from, so if you want a bit of help figuring out what one you are interested in, you are welcome to read my blog post giving a summary on the main approaches, with the pros and cons, and the concerns they may help with - https://www.theequilibriumcoach.com/post/empower-your-growth-with-novena-chanel-s-counseling-services

The most important thing is that you find someone you feel safe and comfortable with - someone who is trained in the area you need to begin safely unpacking your world.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
