Trauma & Relationship Specialist I BACP Accredited

About me

Reaching out for therapy can sometimes feel like a big step, especially if you are feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure where to begin. You are not alone in feeling this way.

My name is Novena-Chanel, and I am a BACP accredited integrative counsellor / psychotherapist, clinical supervisor, and counselling and psychotherapy lecturer. I have over eighteen years of experience supporting individuals and couples through trauma, relationship difficulties, anxiety, and life transitions.

I offer a warm, reflective space where we can explore your experiences together and work towards meaningful and lasting change.

Professional Background

I have worked extensively across the NHS, private practice, and the charity sector, providing therapy in both clinical and community settings.

My experience includes working with organisations such as Solice Women's Aid, Women and Girl's Network, Rape Crisis, and London Friend, supporting survivors of domestic abuse, sexual violence, and complex trauma. Alongside my therapy practice, I also provide clinical supervision for practitioners working within charities and frontline support services.

With experience across public, private, and third sector environments, I bring a broad understanding of trauma, identity, neurodivergence, and systemic challenges into my work.

My Approach – Integrative and Trauma-Informed

As an integrative therapist, I am trained in Person-Centred and Humanistic therapies, alongside Psychodynamic, Existential, Inner child work, CBT techniques, IERA-Therapy, and yoga therapy. This enables me to draw from a range of holisitic and therapeutic approaches to support the identification of each client’s individual needs, and effectively work through difficult patterns within your life and relationships.

I am also the founder of the certified IERA-Therapy Practitioner® pathway, a therapy approach which incorporates working with the impact of developmental relationships, nervous system dyregulation, biological processes, neuroscience, and social and political realities within anti-oppressive practice. I recognise that our emotional wellbeing is shaped not only by personal experiences, but also the wider contexts in which we live. Culture, race, gender, migration, identity, and social environments can all influence how we understand ourselves, our relationships, and the challenges we face.

Therapy can therefore be a space to explore both personal experiences and the broader contexts that shape your life, helping you develop greater understanding, resilience, and connection.

Coaching, Training and Consultancy - The Equilibrium Coach®

Alongside my clinical practice, I provide training, consultancy, coaching and supervision for organisations working in areas such as trauma, identity, wellbeing, and systemic inequality.

As a Life coach, yoga teacher, Reiki Master, and organisational consultant, my work often focuses on bridging the gap between research, therapeutic practice, and organisational wellbeing.

Working Together

The most important part of therapy is finding a therapist you feel safe and comfortable with.

If you are considering therapy, you are welcome to arrange a free 15-minute introductory consultation to see whether working together feels right for you.

You can book this directly through my website here.

What type of Therapy is best for you?

There are lots of different types of therapy to choose from, so if you want a bit of help figuring out what one you are interested in, you are welcome to read my blog post giving a summary on the main approaches, with the pros and cons, and the concerns they may help with - https://www.theequilibriumcoach.com/post/empower-your-growth-with-novena-chanel-s-counseling-services

Accessibility

I understand that traditional therapy settings may not suit everyone.

For those who prefer a different environment, I offer Walk and Talk therapy in the park, combining the therapeutic process with the calming benefits of nature.

I also provide online sessions via Zoom, allowing you to access therapy from wherever you are.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
