About me

Hello and welcome!

I'm Nicoletta, a qualified therapist based in Edinburgh, Scotland. I work with adults from diverse backgrounds providing a practice inclusive of gender, sexual and relationship diversity (GSRD), neurodivergence and LGBTQIAPOC+ affirming.

I am trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) but I practice integratively drawing from a range of modalities including CBT, Narrative Therapy, Compassion-Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Internal Family Systems.

I offer in-person and online sessions if you prefer the comfort of your own space. I work in English and Greek.

My Approach

My approach  is based on the core principles of trauma-informed practice which means that I work within a non-hierarchical framework that offers safety, choices, collaboration, trustworthiness and transparency. As we do not live in a vacuum, I firmly believe in the importance of moving away from pathologising emotional distress and instead considering the contribution of environmental, social/cultural and economic factors to the origin and maintenance of psychological difficulties.

Some of the issues I have supported clients explore include anxiety and panic, depression, loss, low self-esteem, life transitions and complex trauma, in particular domestic abuse. During our sessions, we will engage in gentle and explorative conversations about your life and the impact of past or current experiences on your feelings and the way you relate to yourself and others. I am especially interested in complex and developmental trauma, and I have significant experience with female survivors of domestic abuse.

I work in a relational and holistic  way and I adapt my approach to align with your therapy goals.

What to expect in your first session

At a pace that suits you, we will explore together what brought you to therapy and what you hope to gain from it. We will then collaborate to make a treatment plan in line with your values and therapy goals to ensure you will make the most of our time together.

If any of the above has resonated with you, I warmly welcome you to my practice, either online or in person. If you feel interested, please contact me for a free 20-minute  consultation. I look forward to connecting with you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
