Creative Minds - North Star Counselling CIC
Hi there, and welcome to Creative Minds.
It can be very scary for children who are experiencing difficult emotions. Not being able to understand or make sense of these feelings can create anxiety and worries.
Creative Minds delivers psycho-educational workshops to children and young people who are having difficulties with their feelings. The workshops are designed to raise awareness of mental health issues and to teach children how to manage BIG emotions in creative ways.
Our aim at Creative Minds is to offer support to children, young people and families within the Sunderland area who may be struggling with mental health issues through creative workshops and therapeutic programmes.
We aim to remove the stigma that is still attached to mental health issues and provide a safe environment for children to have the opportunity to be around like minded people, somewhere they feel able to open up about their struggles in hope that they no longer feel alone with their thoughts and feelings.
We also offer a space for parents and carers to come together and participate in workshops designed to support them also, or to grab a cuppa and have a chat amongst themselves or with a member of staff.
The workshops focus on things such as traumas, anxiety, low mood, bullying, anger and many other BIG feelings children may find overwhelming. The sessions offer fun and creative ways to learn to understand and make sense of these feelings and develop techniques to use in times of distress. Working creatively allows the individual to express themselves in non verbal ways and frees up the mind to communicate more freely. We aim to boost confidence and self esteem, bring the community together, and teach people that it is ok to feel what we feel.
Often we hear of the struggles children, adults, young people and families are facing with lengthy waiting lists from the NHS and we aim to act as a stepping stone and bridge this gap by offering psycho-educational and therapeutic workshops to those who are in need of immediate support, or somewhere to access additional support and to hold the individual while they are waiting for more intense appointments such as one to one counselling.
We strongly believe that early intervention is key in reducing the risk of mental health issues developing in later life and that each individual should have access to mental health services without being turned away or made to wait.
Our sessions are currently suitable for children aged 6 – 11 years old, however age is a guide only, depending on ability, older or younger children also welcome.
Our workshops hold up to 10 children per group, and thanks to Hays Travel Foundation, we are able to offer our services for FREE or at a considerably lower cost to those accessing the service at our premises.

Over the last few years, we have seen, and experienced, the frustration from different people around the lack of immediate help in the community when it comes to mental health. Therefore it is our aim to provide a service which enables flexibility and limited, or zero, waiting lists to children, adults, young people and families. We are strong believers in early intervention to help prevent the point of crisis.
Please feel reassured that there are no commitments after our first point of contact and that you are in control at all times.
If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to get in touch. If we are unable to answer the phone, please leave a message with your name and number and a member of staff will get back to you as soon as possible.

Supervision & training
I offer one to one supervision with extensive experience working with children and young people. However, I also supervise professionals working with adults. I work in a way that promotes the development of each supervisee, to support and guide each individual to grow in to the professional they wish to become. .View supervision profile
