Hi there. My name is Nicola and I welcome you all to my profile.
Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity to say you have bravely taken the first step in receiving help by visiting Counselling Directory. It can be very daunting and overwhelming when it comes to accessing counselling for the first time and I would like to reassure you that I am here to help and support you with those overwhelming feelings.
I am a fully qualified counsellor with a BA (hons) Degree in Counselling. I work from a client centred perspective in a none judgemental, emapthic way with our relationship being the main focus. I feel it is very important to build a trusted relationship to ensure you feel at ease and safe within the counselling environment. I work at a pace that is right for you and i often adapt my way of working, by integrating different styles of counselling, to make sure you recieves the type of therapy that best suits you. My aim is to support you in gaining a better understanding of 'self', to help you understand your behavioural patterns and relationships, to help you work through and overcome your problems and to help you work towards gaining autonomy.
Training, qualifications & experience
During my training as a Counsellor in 2013, I volunteered with Samaritans where I supported vulnerable people via telephone, email and face to face drop inns. I also volunteered for the charity Barnardos where I supported families who were victims of domestic abuse, through a programme named Circles2. I also began my counselling placement with Barnardos around this time where I worked with children and their families across a number of different schools and at Orchard Mosaic. Once qualified, I began working for Barnardos and worked here for 3 years. My role included working with children, adults, young people and families and I also worked as a counselling supervisor.
Currently, as well as my private practice, I also work for The Road Centre where I am based in a school setting, working with children, young people and their families. I am also based in South Tyneside working with children in foster care and who are approaching adoption.
Another area of my work includes volunteering as a supervisor at MelanomaMe. Working with trainee counsellors on placement.
I have up to 5 years experience of working with a variety of different issues, including trauma, abuse, self harm, suicide, anxiety, depression, bullying, low confidence and self esteem, depression and low mood, bereavement, family difficulties and much more. Please see the list below for other areas I have worked with.

Since qualifying as a counsellor in 2014 it has been my goal to set up a service that provides support to a wide variety of different people. In November 2017 I set up a service named North Star counselling Service, that provides support to children, adults, young people and families of all ages.
Over the last 5 years, I have seen, and experienced, the frustration from different people around the lack of immediate help in the community, when it comes to mental health. Therefore it is my aim to provide a service which enables flexibility and limited, or zero, waiting lists. I am a strong believer in early intervention to help prevent the point of crisis.
If you feel I am the right person to help you on your counselling journey, then please feel free to send me and email or give me a call and we can have a chat about setting up an initial meeting where we can discuss what you hope to gain from your counselling sessions.
Please feel reassured that there are no commitments after our first point of contact and that you are in control at all times.
If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to get in touch. If I am unable to answer the phone, please leave a message with your name and number and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
Thank you for taking the time to have a look through my profile and I look forward to hearing from you in the future.
Take care and good luck with what ever path you choose to take on your counselling journey.
My specialist areas include Trauma and Working with children.
I am also a registered member of the BACP.
