About me

What is making you look for a therapist? Perhaps it is an issue that you can describe clearly or perhaps it is that you feel stuck in your life, where things are not working out how you imagined they would or in a way you are happy with. Maybe you are trying to keep pushing on but the path in front of you feels like an increasingly uphill struggle. We are so used to seeing our lives from our own perspective - one that can become narrowed by stresses and anxieties in the present and also sometimes those carried from the past - that we feel trapped and unable to see a way forward.

Therapy can help you understand, regroup and reassess, freeing you to see and make choices leading towards your best future.

The therapist you choose must be someone you are comfortable with and trust. Having qualified over 20 years ago I have trained in a variety of therapy approaches. I offer an integrated approach to working which puts you at the centre of our work. I will hold a safe, compassionate and non-judgemental space where we can explore your life experiences together. You are the expert on your life. The more you understand about that life the better able you will be to move forwards in the direction you want.

Training, qualifications & experience

After University (MA, Oxford University) I originally qualified as a solicitor. My client work brought me into contact with deep and complex individual needs which legal process did little to understand or help.  This experience alongside my own journey into therapy led me to complete a further degree in Psychology  (Postgraduate Certificate in Psychology, with Distinction, University of Hong Kong) and re-train as a therapist, qualifying in 1996.

My early years of client work was with two agencies in the culturally diverse city of Hong Kong where I worked with a wide variety of clients and issues. During that time I was also involved in the training of counsellors and I also came to run a thriving private practice.

More recently,  I have completed a Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling and Psychotherapy in the UK and assisted in counsellor training at Cornwall College and managed their low-cost counselling agency, Penhaligon Counselling,

I have been a Samaritans listening volunteer for 6 years and have been involved in the volunteer training programmes.

As a therapist and also a parent, I have undertaken further training in working with adults with issues of neuro-diversity such as Autism Spectrum and ADHD.

I have also trained in Metaphor Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, Gestalt, working with suicidal clients, Psychodynamic Therapy, Infant and Neo-natal loss, Internal Family Systems, Trauma and Grief.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
