About me

There are many reasons people seek counselling, and although this can be difficult it can really help you to take control of your life enabling you to make decisions that better server your needs and wants. I offer a safe confidential space for you to talk about whatever is important to you. I am an experienced Counsellor and provide safe, non-judgmental environment, a genuine and authentic relationship accepting you as you are where you are. I hope to accompany you in your journey exploring your worries and experiences from your perspective and what this mean to you. Counselling is a process through which the client becomes more able to freely express difficult feelings and emotions which lead to improved self-awareness and change.

I have worked with a wide range of diversity in a range different of settings for a number of years including mainstream and SEN schools, Trauma & Bereavement and Mental Health. I work therapeutically with both children and adults using an Integrative approach, meaning I use a variety of approaches along with my knowledge and skills to draw on interventions to tailor my approach for individual clients. I believe the client has what they need to heal their own wounds and live life to their full potential I am able to connect the client to their inner healing abilities. My specialism has been working with clients effected by Trauma and Bereavement and the long lasting impact these issues can have living day to day long after events have happened. I also work effectively with a wide range of issues in particular, Anxiety and Depression, Childhood Trauma or Abuse, Relationship Issues, Dissociative Disorders, Children with special educational needs including Autism and ADHD.

Sometimes it can be difficult to the find the words and for some talking is not easy or doesn't feel safe, I am also a trained Brainspotting Therapist. This is a brain based tool which locates points in the visual field that help access unprocessed trauma in the Sub-Cortical brain, regulating the Amygdala the emotional centre of the brain. It works by finding a somatic que in the face or body, followed by mindful processing of trauma and other issues held in the brain and body. I have used this intervention for various issues including physical pain. In Brainspotting we believe where you look affects how you feel. This technique has been proven to be an effective treatment for trauma and other emotional and psychological issues. Brainspotting activates the body's innate ability to heal itself. With any therapeutic work it is the relationship that heals and finding the right Counsellor is key. If you would like any further information or would like to book a session with me please do get in touch.

I offer a free 30 minute telephone assessment to discuss your concerns and together we can decide if I would be the right Counsellor for you at this time. I currently work in two locations, Bedford and Olney and currently offering face to face and online services.

Experience

I have nearly 10 years counselling experience and I currently work in Private Practice and in two locations Bedford and Olney. Previous to this I have worked in a variety of settings with a wide range of diverse clients and presenting issues.

These have included both SEN and mainstream schools, MIND Mental health Charity and The Road Victims Trust, who offer counselling support to families and individuals affected by the Impact of Fatal Road Collisions and Serious Injury. Most recently I have worked in a Private Psychology Practice in Milton Keynes offering Counselling & Supervision.

My passion is working with Trauma and Bereavement and have significant knowledge and experience in this field. My other specialism is working with children including children with special educational needs including autism and use a range of Play Therapy techniques.

I believe everyone has within themselves the power and ability to heal themselves. With counselling an individual can learn to connect to themselves to actualise and fulfil their potential. I work with what ever the client brings and believe in working with the mind and body to help heal both the physical and emotional pain.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
