Further information

Psychotherapy offers a special therapeutic relationship which gives you the confidentiality and empathy to truly express yourself and find your own solutions to problems that previously felt unmanageable. The therapy session is a safe space where you will always be treated with respect and warmth, and where you will never be judged.

With the support of a skilled psychotherapist you can begin to understand your life, your situation and your feelings in a new way and find the strength within yourself to make things better.

Psychotherapy can help you to understand the way you act or react, why some relationships are so hard to manage and why certain goals are so hard to achieve. This understanding will give you the opportunity to heal, change and improve your life.

Since 2010 I have worked in a variety of settings. I am registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) and a member of the British Association of Dramatherapists (BADth). As a registered clinical supervisor, I also provide professional supervision to both trainee and qualified psychotherapists and counsellors.

There are many different approaches to counselling and psychotherapy but none is suitable for all clients in all situations. As a drama psychotherapist, my approach is ‘integrative’, which means I use a variety of creative techniques and ideas in my practice, tailored to each client’s individual needs and personal circumstances.

I’m an intuitive and dynamic practitioner, with an instinctive ability to work within the moment and respond to my clients’ needs. My practice is inclusive: while I focus on each client as an individual, I always strive to understand the wider social context of their background and history.

My work is based on psychodynamic theory, which teaches us that we all have an unconscious life that can exert a powerful hold over our emotions and behaviour. During therapy, it’s possible to locate the conflicts, anxieties and desires which lie beneath the surface and begin to understand the meaning of these aspects of ourselves.

My practice draws on the person-centred counselling principles of personal empowerment and self-actualisation. This means the purpose of therapy is to support you in achieving your personal goals and fulfilling your potential.

This kind of therapy moves away from the traditional model where the therapist is seen as the ‘expert’, towards a non-directive, empathic approach which empowers and motivates the client. I believe the effectiveness of therapy depends on the quality of the relationship between the client and the therapist, and the best results are achieved through a respectful, warm and non-judgemental attitude towards the client.

With dramatherapy, even traditional ‘talking therapy’ can become a creative experience. Being able to draw on a wide range of techniques and ideas means I can approach issues from different directions, and help you to achieve movement, change and personal growth.
