About me

My name is Madelene Louw. I am a trained Counsellor/Psychotherapist with experience in the NHS, private sector and registered member of BACP.  Feelings of being overwhelmed or hopeless might have brought you in reading my entry.  These feelings, thoughts and behaviours might feel too difficult to understand, manage or share with anyone leaving you feeling alone or misunderstood. Our time together will allow you the space and opportunity to share your thoughts, feelings and behaviours in a warm, non-judgemental and caring environment.

I trained as an Integrative Practitioner.  This approach helps me to choose from a range of psychological models (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Person Centred and Psychodynamic) to fashion the best approach for you. Of greatest importance is the relationship that we will develop together. Establishing a trusted alliance will be fundamental to the success of our work together.

As a result of my life experience and living abroad I have developed a desire to support and come alongside anyone that feels overwhelmed. Prior to retraining as a Counsellor/Psychotherapist I worked in the private sector for 20 years. This has led me to develop an interest in career transitions and change.

The endless opportunity, in the UK and back home, to be exposed to different cultures, religious beliefs, and social environments has further fed my desire to explore the impact that change and transition might have on people.

Additionally, I have also trained as a Spiritual Director with experience of supporting clients on their spiritual journey. The spiritual journey that a person is on, is of great interest to me especially where there is possible spiritual and psychological tensions due to trauma, abuse, social, cultural, political and religious tensions.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
