About me

Your story is unique to you. We are all shaped by our past experiences and the people who were or weren’t present for us.  Our past can impact how we experience our present and how we meet our future.
Do you need someone to listen? Do you feel unheard or unseen? Are you feeling misunderstood, disillusioned, to blame, sad or angry? These emotions are part of being human, but sometimes it is not easy to live with them or understand them. From childhood we go through life carrying other people's expectations and ideas of us, taking on what others think of us,  what they tell us and expect of us. We are often left with feelings of low self worth, anger, sadness or may feel powerless.  We can become confused about who we are, what we need and where life is taking us. This accumulation over many years blinds us to who we really are and sometimes we need help to find out.

I believe I can help you. This is just the start of something new…..

What happens when you contact me? I will return your call or email as soon as I can, usually within the same day. I will ask you what has brought you to counselling and you can tell me as much or as little as you feel able.  Our informal chat will be for around 20 minutes. If you feel you would like to come and see me, we will book a day and time convenient for both of us. I will send you information on how to find my premises.

How long and how often? Sessions are 50 minutes and weekly at the same time each week. How long you want to remain in counselling will be your choice, however it is usual to work together for the minimum of 6 weeks in order to establish a relationship.

How do I work? I work in a warm and supportive way in which I hold and guide you on your path to self knowledge, understanding and acceptance. Together and without judgement, we can discover the true, inner you through traditional talking therapy, creative therapy and sand play therapy.  Along with these, I also work with dreams; the doorway to our unconscious which holds many of the answers we seek. There is no obligation to partake in creative work, we will work in the way which suits you best as an individual. I believe that you have all the answers you need to move forward.

What is my experience? I have worked as a qualified counsellor since 2013 and have worked with people from all walks of life and ages, being privileged to witness their transformation. I worked for several years as a Child and Family Practitioner for a charity supporting survivors of sexual abuse.

I have specialism in Childhood Sexual Abuse, Trauma, and Relationships and Family Issues.

You will find me to be caring and warm, passionate in my belief in you and challenging at times. I am flexible in my approach, using all my knowledge to work with you as a unique individual.

I work from a purpose built practice in my garden which is comfortable, calm, safe and confidential.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
