About me

Hello, I’m Lisa the founder of Snowdrop Counselling Services.  Thank you for taking the time to look at my page.

I am sorry that you are here due to something in your life being challenging and is most likely overwhelming you. Maybe you are struggling with a current situation and feel like no-one gets it?

Are you also feeling stressed, anxious,  feeling low in your self, generally not feeling 'you' and unsure of your future but knowing that you don't want to carry on like this. Perhaps you are dealing with something from your past that you want to explore more.

It is a brave, courageous and hard thing to seek counselling but it is also rewarding, life changing and can even be a life saving experience. Sometimes this can feel harder when you aren't sure how you feel or find it difficult to explain. I can support you to explore and better understand your thoughts, feelings and behaviours.

I believe that choosing the right counsellor is important which is why I offer a free 20-30 minute initial assessment. This allows you to decide whether you are ready to engage with counselling and that I am the right person for you.

How can I help?

I have a passion for working with both younger and older clients (from 12 years + ) and have a variety of experience working with anxiety, depression, family issues, neurodivergence, autism, ADHD, trauma, work/life balance, stress, relationship difficulties, loss, pet bereavement, peer/school difficulties, abuse and PTSD.

I believe that you are the centre of the therapy and I will draw on my skills and experiences' to tailor the sessions to meet your needs. Another way that I can do is by using a few different theories as I recognise that one approach does not suit everyone, (this is called Integrative Therapy).

However, the main theory I use is Person Centred as it emphasises the relationship between us and uses the core conditions of empathy, honesty and unconditional acceptance to help you feel heard and connect better with yourself and others; it encourages and empowers us to be who we are without fear and judgement.

Personal and Professional Experiences

For the past 15 years whilst I qualified and gained experience as a counsellor, I also did paid work as a support worker. I started by working with children in care as I understood what it was like to be fostered, and to be part of leaving care services and knew it would aid in my counselling skills. I did this job for 5 years then changed to working with children with special needs in respite care, 2 years later I changed again to working with adults with autism and challenging behaviour where I remained for 8 years and left to start up Snowdrop Counselling Services.

During these years as a support worker, I graduated as a counsellor and held a placement with a local charity that offered affordable counselling services to adults. I started here in 2016 and as much as I enjoyed it I also missed working with children and young people so I left in 2022 and moved to another local charity that specialised in counselling to those aged 12 years+.

Although my life appears quite stable it hasn’t been as I have experienced many hardships including being a looked-after child followed by being a care leaver, I have been on benefits, homeless, pet bereavement, bereavement, depression, PTSD and yet despite it all, here I am.

Further information

After you contact me I will reply offering you my availability for a free 20-30 minute Initial Assessment (IA) and we will agree on a date and time for this.

At the IA I will take some personal details and will explore what has brought you to counselling and what you hope to achieve, I will explain what I can offer and an agreed fee. Hopefully, during the IA you will feel ready to start counselling and we will get our diaries out to agree on a date, time and frequency (ideally weekly). Having done shift work all my working life I understand that the sessions may need to be flexible and I will do my best to accommodate you.

There are no time limits as to how many sessions you need, you can have as many or as few as you like as you lead the therapy and can discuss with me when you are ready to end so that we can work towards your ending process.
