About me

Introduction

My name is Karen and welcome to my profile. I am an experienced and accredited counsellor, supervisor and IFS Informed Therapist who specialises in working in Trauma, Bereavement and Anxiety. If after reading the below you would like to have a chat, I offer a free 30-minute consultation which gives you the opportunity to meet me and see how I can help you.

Do you find yourself saying ‘I’m fine’ when someone asks ‘How are you?’, but inside you are crumbling? Do you find yourself putting a mask on whenever you are around others in fear of them seeing what is really going on inside? Or do you find yourself ignoring your emotions and just pushing them away and not giving yourself the time to explore how you are really feeling?

Life can be incredibly challenging at times and I understand how some life experiences can have a big impact on us and can leave us feeling overwhelmed and confused. Before you know it, you have lost direction and feel stuck and unable to find your way back to how you used to be.

Upsetting or traumatic experiences, whether recent or in the past can leave you feeling detached, numb or in a state of shock, disbelief, or denial. The trauma may have left you experiencing nightmares, flashbacks, or even panic attacks, which can be extremely frightening when they happen and leave you living in fear of them happening again.

Carrying these difficult and unwelcome emotions around with you every day, while trying to pretend that nothing is wrong, can be exhausting. It can leave you feeling alone and as though no-one will understand.

My sessions can give you a safe and respectful place to explore any difficulties you may be experiencing.

How can counselling help you

Counselling can help you understand yourself better and recognise unhelpful patterns in the way you think or act. It can help you gain a different perspective to any problems or issues you may be experiencing. Together we can find ways to change these complicated feelings or find a way to live with them. By understanding your feelings and thought processes, it enables you to find your own solutions to the problems.

Counselling can help with:

·       Loss or bereavement

·       Stress and Anxiety

·       Anger Management

·       Loss of Confidence or Low Self-Esteem

·       Depression

·       Bullying

·       Trauma

·       Rape and Sexual Abuse

·       Family Conflicts

·       Physical or Emotional Abuse

·       Work Related Issues

.        Miscarriage

·       Stillborn or Neo-natal Death

My qualifications and experience

I am a registered and accredited Counsellor and Supervisor in private practice. I have worked with a Rape and Sexual Assault Charity for a number of years and I have worked with Cruse Bereavement and Anxiety UK Therapist.

I work with all problems such as Trauma, Rape and Sexual Abuse, Bereavement, Anxiety, Depression, Anger, Abuse, Panic, Low Self-Esteem, Shock, Fear, Worry, Sadness, Flashbacks and Low Confidence.

How and Where I Work

I am an IFS informed, psychotherapeutic, integrative counsellor which enables me to use different models of counselling that are best suited to you. I am also a Supervisor who works with other therapists.

I believe that everybody should be given an opportunity to be able to have their voice heard and be able to express how they are feeling without the fear of being judged. Therapy should be about you, so I tailor my sessions to suit you in a safe and non-judgemental environment, where I will listen and support you through these challenging times.

Face to Face Appointments

I can offer face to face appointments during the day, evenings and weekends in Farnborough, Hampshire, GU14.  If this is an option you are interested in, please contact me so we can discuss.

Online or Telephone Sessions

I am able to offer sessions across the UK via Zoom or telephone, which enables you to stay in the comfort of your own home (if this is a safe place for you). Another benefit to online or telephone sessions, is there are no travel times to consider, so additional time does not need to be added into the length of the sessions.

How counselling can help

Counselling gives you an opportunity to talk through your thoughts and feelings and have your voice heard. It gives you a safe place to explore the challenges you may be struggling with and help you to make sense of them and find a new way forward.

Counselling is not about the therapist telling you what to do or giving advice, it is about you and your experiences of your life. Our sessions will be led by you, with my help and support. Together we will travel on your journey, at your pace, looking and exploring your thoughts and emotions.
