About me

You deserve not only to heal from the challenges your life has brought you but to truly thrive and live up to your fullest potential. Therapy can help you to do both. I am a fully qualified counsellor and psychotherapist who works from a person-centred foundation, using techniques and tools from all the therapeutic approaches I’m trained in as needed to suit your individual situation. I offer a warm and compassionate approach suitable for working with a wide range of challenges and symptoms and I have particular expertise in working with people struggling with the impact of trauma, abuse and/or addiction. I work face to face in Heaton Moor, Stockport and also online and by phone. I offer a range of appointment times to suit you, including evenings and weekends. Contact me today for a free 20 minute online introductory session.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a BACP registered therapist trained in person-centred counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), transactional analysis, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) and a range of trauma-informed approaches including polyvagal theory and mindfulness-based stress reduction.

I have significant experience of working with people who have experienced abuse, domestic violence, assault, childhood abuse and other traumatic experiences, supporting them with a holistic and trauma-informed recovery process. I also have worked with many clients who are experiencing anxiety, depression, compulsive behaviour issues including addictions, work-related stress, relationship difficulties and many more emotional and psychological challenges.

I am committed to meeting you where you are and providing the support you need as an individual, taking into account all aspects of your identity and how they intersect to impact your life experience. This includes a commitment to anti-racism and to providing LGBTQ+ friendly care as well as to making any reasonable adjustments you need to be able to access my services on an equal basis to others. I have a clear enhanced DBS certificate which you can review on request and I have up to date safeguarding and neurodiversity awareness training. I am registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office as a data controller of confidential information and I am fully insured. As a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy I work to strict ethical standards and I keep my skills up to date by completing regular continuing professional development.

As well as my private work I volunteer as a therapist with a women’s refuge, working with women who have experienced domestic violence and psychological abuse.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
