About me

"Who are you?" said the caterpillar. Alice replied, "I hardly know Sir, at least I know who I was this morning, but I think I must have changed several times since then."          Lewis Carroll- Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

Welcome, I'm Jo, a qualified Humanistic therapist, who provides 1:1 therapy to young people (over the age of 16yrs old) and adults. I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP No: 387976) and work within their Ethical Framework for Counselling Professionals.

So, what is counselling?
Counselling is a confidential, safe space for you to explore what is going on for you and to be heard without judgement. Humanistic counselling approaches each person as a unique individual. It works to promote the individuals need to grow and realise their own potential, in their own unique way. It avoids the 'expert' position, rather valuing the client's experiences and ability to make decisions for their own emotional growth.

Together, we build a therapeutic relationship where you can explore what is important to you and for you to experience your truth being heard in a warm, empathic manner and having your truth witnessed without judgement. By being heard you will hopefully be able to move forward and experience a more fulfilling life.

The counselling approach that I work from honours the inherent creativity of humans to know what they want to realise their potential. I am not the expert in your life, however can help you discover who you are and how you wish to change. The process is fully in the hands of the client and I will be your witness rather than the director of your story.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about my counselling approach and how it may benefit you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
