About me

Hello, are you looking for a counsellor who can offer warmth, empathy and a non-judgemental attitude within an honest, trusting and secure environment?

My name is Jo and I am fully qualified and accredited professional with National Counselling Society and I am a BACP accredited Person Centred Counsellor with over 12 years extensive experience of working in a variety of NHS primary care settings as well as more traditional counselling settings.. Through my clinical work, in particular within community mental health settings, I have wide experience of working with a range of difficulties including depression, anxiety, trauma, abuse, relationship difficulties, and loss.

I offer a confidential, safe, non-judgemental space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings. People seek counselling for many reasons. Some are feeling depressed, anxious, having difficulties in relationships. Some come because they feel sad and empty inside and others because of feelings of guilt or low self-esteem. Mostly, people seek counselling because they feel stuck, unsatisfied or lost in their lives. The overall aim of our sessions together is to work towards living in a way which is more satisfying and resourceful for you.

I offer one to one counselling sessions usually once a week. Sessions last 50 minutes and are usually on the same day and at the same time each week. Counselling can be open-ended or time-limited. You can either agree a set number of counselling sessions at the outset and focus on a particular issue or begin counselling and see how you progress before deciding how long you wish to continue. You determine the pace of counselling and we can regularly review your progress and your thoughts and feelings about the work we do together.

Please feel free to call, text or email me and we can arrange an initial appointment to talk about how and when we can work together. If you are unsure about talking therapy and whether it would be helpful for you, I am happy to provide a free pre-arranged 20 minutes phone or video consultation to help you decide. There is an opportunity for you to see if you feel that we would be able to work together and to ask me any questions you may have about counselling. It is also an opportunity for me to understand what has brought you to counselling at this point in your life and of your expectations for the work.

Counselling sessions are completely confidential and it is important that you feel able to speak freely about your issues. I adhere to the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions and in accordance with this all my client work is supervised by a trained and experienced supervisor.

I have limited availability on a Friday also some evening appointments. Sessions can be either face to face, zoom or telephone

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
