Jennifer Horsfall, Couples Counsellor & Gestalt Psychotherapist, BACP, (BUPA)
32 Cambray Court
5 West End
I'm a Gestalt Psychotherapist offering short term and open ended psychotherapy and couples counselling. I bring over 20 years professional experience as a therapist, including working extensively in the NHS and Higher Education.
I have specialist training in working with intimacy and sexual issues that arise within couples. My expertise also include working with trauma, work related stress, and building resilience.
My background as a mental health NHS professional means I bring an additional specialism in helping people with depression, anxiety, addictions, and eating issues. I am a BUPA, WPA, and Aviva registered provider so, if you have insurance you may be eligible for a course of counselling.
Informed by training in Gestalt Therapy my approach is holistic. This could include exploring your feelings, beliefs, dreams, and expressions in your body. I also work relationally, attending to the dynamics between us, and using our therapeutic relationship as a tool for growth.
I provide a dynamic, warm, and professional space in which you can explore past or current issues. I'm passionate about my work, and believe a balance of support and challenge is essential to making changes. I practice in a collaborative way, so that together we can create a therapeutic relationship where you feel understood and accepted.
I can help you (or you and your partner) move through those difficult times in life where you may be feeling low, stuck, or uncertain about things. I can support you in finding deeper levels of happiness, confidence and meaning in your life. We can also experiment with new ways of relating so that you can make more satisfying and fulfilling life choices.
In addition I offer life coaching which can support you in clarifying the direction of your life and take effective action to achieve your potential and optimise your quality of life. I can help you to recognise and build on existing strengths, and develop effective approaches to your work, relationships and personal wellbeing.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have substantial professional experience of working with a wide range of emotional and psychological issues, often related to trauma. I have supported many individuals who experience difficulties in relation to: depression, anger, anxiety, bereavement, eating issues, self harming, suicidal thoughts and alcohol/drug issues. Some of the common themes include loss, lack of control, low self worth and difficulties relating to others.
I hold a post graduate diploma in Gestalt Therapy as well as a post graduate diploma in Gestalt Psychotherapy. I also hold a Diploma in Contemporary Trauma Studies and have specialist skills in working with trauma. I am a trained couples counsellor and have completed a specialist 18 month training on working with intimacy related issues.
I am an accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy MBACP (Accred). Further training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Mindfulness allows me to integrate these approaches into my work if it seems appropriate.
I have worked extensively in a variety of NHS settings as a mental health professional and I remain registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC). I also worked at a university creating an innovative Wellbeing Service to support the emotional and psychological needs of students and provided training, supervision and consultancy to staff.

I am deeply passionate and committed to my work as a psychotherapist, couples counsellor and life coach and believe that all experiences, especially the challenging one's, can lead to growth, insight and healing.
I believe it is important to choose a therapist that you can connect with. Therefore I am happy to discuss any questions or concerns you may have about counselling and psychotherapy so that you can make a decision that is right for you.
