About me

Finding someone you feel safe to work with when you have difficult things in your life can seem so uncertain and put you off trying. I want to welcome you, to hear and understand the confusing, frustrating, anxious, and hurtful experiences, however deep, which you carry. I will never judge you but rather listen for the deep parts of your heart. I offer a therapeutic counselling space for young adults through to older adults and adjust my way of working to suit your particular needs.

I consider each person unique and part of a web of relationships and past experiences that influences their present.  Your well-being is my focus and I want to foster a relationship that feels caring and secure for working together in counselling. I take very seriously the trust my clients place in me and know deeply the privilege it is to counsel. I work to provide a safe, confidential space for each person to explore issues and find positive ways forward. We work at your pace toward your goals.

My particular interests are the impact of a person's childhood experiences; exploring and working with parts of us that carry difficult emotions and negative self-beliefs; exploring the way our bodies hold and feel different emotions, impulses, and memories, whether recent or from our distant past. As a Christian pastor’s wife, I have 40 years’ experience walking alongside people in their life changes, anxiety, traumas, losses and deep disappointments, spiritual abuse, self-harm and having suicidal ideas, baby loss, bereavement, abuse, divorce, crises, traumas, anxiety and core issues of self-esteem, security and significance. Should someone also want to explore the spiritual aspects of the issues they face and how their belief/faith impacts those issues, I am open to work with this exploration as well.

As an integrative counsellor, I weave several therapeutic approaches to tailor the counselling to each person’s particular needs - CBT, Integrative, Person-Centred, Psychodynamic.

I meet with people face to face in Edinburgh or online using Zoom or FaceTime.

In the first session, I want to learn what brings you to counselling, to hear something of your life context for the issue(s) you face and to explore the various aspects of your life that your difficulty causes. I want to learn what are your hopes and expectations for counselling. Lastly, I will explore with you some things about your mental health, explain how I work and my profession organisations's ethical framework which underpins this.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
