About me

Emotional difficulties may be difficult to talk about which can leave us in an overwhelming and lonely place. You may have been considering talking therapy for some time, but perhaps there are conflicting feelings about it. It is very natural to feel this way. However, I would like to encourage you to take the step and reach out because talking therapy can offer an invaluably rewarding experience of understanding yourself better, deeply, helping you to feel more in control of your inner world and your life.

Confidential, objective and non-judgmental therapy setting creates a space that is safe for you to talk about anything that might be worrying you, about anything that might feel important. Together, we will think about your experiences to help you make sense of them, which will open opportunities to developing new perspectives and more helpful ways of coping and relating.

I work with clients online as well as in person in Islington (N1).

Sessions last 50 minutes and take place once a week. We will agree a time and day that is convenient to us both and will be meeting at the same time each week.

Training, qualifications & experience

In addition to private practice, I also work as a counsellor at an NHS counselling service in North London. My other experience involves working at charity counselling and psychotherapy services in Highgate and Central London. I have worked with people on a short-term and long-term basis and helped with anxiety-related difficulties (e.g. general worry, specific fears, intrusive thoughts, panic attacks), low self-esteem, low mood and depression, loss and grief, relationship difficulties, unhelpful behaviours, eating-related difficulties, psychosomatic issues, difficulties related to identity and self-image, unclear life direction and others.

My previous background is in psychology and mental health. For over 9 years I have worked in various NHS secondary care mental health settings, including an inpatient psychiatric unit, crisis service, and a recovery-rehabilitation service, where I have worked with clients therapeutically individually and in groups, helping them achieve their recovery goals. I have also worked as a specialist mental health mentor in higher education, where I helped university students achieve their academic goals by addressing obstacles to learning due to experience mental health difficulties.

I have worked in very diverse boroughs with very diverse populations, including different cultural, racial, ethnic, religious backgrounds, adults of different age groups, genders and sexual orientations, different walks of life, and so I welcome all to my practice.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

I understand that beginning therapy can feel daunting, especially for the first time, as there might be a lot of uncertainty and conflicting feelings about therapy. At the very least, it is about opening up about own very personal experiences to a stranger. I therefore invite you to meet for an initial consultation, which can be a chance for you to meet me and see if you would like to continue working with me. It can also be a chance to ask questions and find out more about therapy.

During the consultation, we will explore your reasons for seeking therapy and what you would like to gain from it. I will ask some questions about your current circumstances to get a better understanding of your situation and how I can help. If we agree to work together, we will begin therapy in subsequent sessions. We will agree on a day and a time that suits us both and will be meeting at the same time each week.

If you would like to start psychotherapy, or have any questions, or simply would like to find out more - please get in touch.

With warmest wishes,
Ieva
