About me

Welcome to my profile. I am a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist accredited with the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP). I work with adults and young people, in person and online, at my private practice 'Evolve CBT'.

Benefits of CBT

CBT - Cognitive Behavioural Therapy helps to identify and explore the link between your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. CBT mainly focuses on the 'here and now', and whilst past events and experiences are considered during therapy, overcoming current difficulties will be the focus of the sessions.

CBT tools and strategies help you develop a different way of thinking which has a positive effect on both your emotions and behavioural responses. These changes in your thought processing  will enable you to achieve your goals and overcome your difficulties. The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) recommends CBT in treating anxiety disorders & depression.

CBT is a time-limited form of therapy and aims to give you the tools to improve and maintain good mental health within a specified time frame rather than relying on sessions over a long period of time.  CBT is structured and solution focused therefore you can expect to leave each session with new insight and strategies for progression.

About Me

I am an accredited psychotherapist based in Edinburgh and the Lothians. My background prior to CBT was  in education  and performance (I am a qualified principal teacher, actor and director). I bring all my skills to support the client. I am an accredited coach (ACC) with the International Coaching Federation (ICF). I offer personal and business Cognitive Behavioural Coaching (CBC) to individuals and business owners. Cognitive Behavioural Coaching is a coaching technique used to enable clients restricted by emotional or psychological barriers to reach their goals. I am a clinical supervisor and currently supervise trainee Cognitive Behavioural Therapists, counsellors and coaches.

What to expect

I offer a confidential and non-judgmental environment where you can feel safe and supported to make positive changes and enhance your overall quality of your life. With advanced training in Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), I offer an integrative approach introducing other therapies to best support you. The therapeutic relationship is  extremely important. Having someone who understands the issues you are struggling with, and whom you feel you can talk to, is an essential part of the CBT process.

Next Steps

I realise it can be difficult to seek help for psychological problems and that is why I offer clients a free telephone consultation at this initial stage. Together we can discuss your needs and goals and determine whether CBT is the best way forward for you. The consultation also allows you to decide if I am the best 'fit' for you as a therapist.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BABCP
British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP)

The BABCP is the lead organisation for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy in the UK. Membership is open to anyone with an interest in the practice, theory or development of CBT. BABCP also provides accreditation for CBT therapists. BABCP accredited members adhere to the Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics in the Practice of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies, and are willing to be scrutinised in this adherence as required.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
