About me

I am a Consultant Clinical Psychologist with many years experience of helping people work through areas of difficulty in their lives. I am registered with the Health & Care Professions Council.

Working in the independent sector, I provide private therapy for a wide range of psychological difficulties including anxiety, low mood, stress, managing challenging circumstances, trauma and relationship difficulties. I also provide supervision to practitioners working as qualified clinical psychologists and students undertaking masters level courses.

When working therapeutically with clients my aim is to provide a safe and trusting space for people to talk through areas of difficulty in their life, to offer guidance based on psychological principles to help make sense of what can sometimes feel over-whelming. I am compassionate and caring as well as clear and direct, I challenge when appropriate and listen when needed.  I work collaboratively with clients to develop an understanding of their difficulties and move towards achieving their goals for therapy.

Training, qualifications & experience

I completed my undergraduate M.A. in Psychology at the University of Glasgow and my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Edinburgh.  Since qualification I have undertaken specialist additional training in advanced therapy skills in Cognitive Analytic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Schema Therapy.

As a Clinical Psychologist, I am trained to work across the life span with mental illness, mental disorder and psychological wellbeing. Clinical Psychologist is a protected title by the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC), this ensures that the term is only used by those who have meet the academic and professional competencies as stated by the HCPC.

Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.

They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.

Registration means that a health professional meets national standards for their professional training, performance and conduct.
