About me

Open Couch is a professional, confidential counselling service working with young people and adults, and is open to anyone in need. I offer affordable therapy options as I believe that anyone who needs to access support should be able to do this without worrying about the cost.

At Open Couch you are at the heart of everything I do. As a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy I work within a specific set of ethical guidelines for good practice so you can be assured that your safety and best interests are at the forefront of our work together.

I'm currently offering online and telephone counselling sessions - which can be great for saving time, money and travel and as you're in your own space it can make the process that little bit less daunting too. If you're living further afield this can also be helpful as you have greater access to the support you need.

Here at Open Couch I work with you to access the 'real you' - that authentic self which can often get 'left behind' as other things take priority; for some people this can be a quick process and for others it can take a lot longer. Whatever your needs, and wherever you're starting from, counselling can be a source of comfort, support and safety to enable you to decide who you are, what you want and where you want to be.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and am a registered member with BACP.

I work both privately and as a volunteer counsellor for a local counselling agency offering both short term and open-ended therapeutic work for clients and have taken on clients with them for a number of years.  I also take referrals from organisations and have worked with schools and government contractors.

I undertake regular continued professional development training to support my counselling work.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

I believe that counselling support is a vital service which should be accessible to everyone regardless of their circumstances, therefore I offer a range of payment options and sessions fees to accommodate this. I understand how tough it can be to choose to put yourself first when there are so many other commitments and demands on both your time and means, and particularly in this period of massive uncertainty it's more important than ever for you to be able to look after your own well-being so that you can be there for family, friends and colleagues when you need to be. Let's have a chat and see what will work best for you!
