About me
Hello! I'm glad you found your way to Ebb & Flow Counselling. My name is Gill, and I am a qualified counsellor with a Level 5 Professional Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling (Prof. Dip Psy C.). I am also an accredited registered member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Society (MNCPS Accred), and I adhere to their code of ethics.
Now that we have that out of the way and I’ve explained what all the letters mean, I can tell you a bit more about me. My focus is on the significance of mental health and the growing awareness of its importance. My passion lies in providing support for individuals facing a range of concerns including stress, anxiety, depression, work-related stress, family or relationship issues, grief and loss, self-esteem challenges, and childhood trauma. Through a neutral and empathetic approach, I aim to help my clients navigate their mental health journey with understanding and resilience. As well as being a pluralistic counsellor, I am an artist and I find that they complement each other well, providing me with a well-rounded work balance. Living by the sea has always been a source of immense inspiration and tranquillity for me. The soothing presence of the sea adds an extra layer of peace and creativity to my life and work, influencing my approach to counselling and fostering a sense of calm within me that I strive to impart to others.
I offer in-person counselling, online and walk and talk. Let me tell you a bit more about each:
In person - As a pluralistic counsellor, I believe in tailoring my approach to meet your individual needs. My practice is primarily grounded in person-centred counselling, focusing on creating a safe and empathetic space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings. Depending on your unique situation, we may draw from psychodynamic techniques to delve into your past experiences and how they may be influencing your present. Additionally, we may incorporate cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) techniques to address specific thought patterns and behaviours. Counselling with me is a collaborative process aimed at fostering understanding, facilitating positive change, and nurturing personal growth. Together, we will work towards finding the most effective tools and strategies to support your journey towards holistic well-being. I warmly invite you to experience the tranquil setting of my calming garden room nestled in the serene and picturesque village of Pittenweem, where you can embark on your therapeutic journey in a peaceful and soothing environment.
Online - I offer the flexibility of online sessions for clients who prefer the convenience and comfort of virtual counselling. Our online sessions are conducted through Google Meet, providing a secure and familiar platform for my clients to engage with me. Each online session is structured to mirror our in-person sessions, with a duration of 50 minutes. This allows for a focused and effective therapeutic experience while accommodating the unique dynamics of virtual communication. Whether you are unable to attend in-person sessions or simply prefer the flexibility of online counselling, I am dedicated to providing a supportive and impactful experience to help you navigate life's challenges.
Walk and Talk - Walk and talk sessions are a unique and therapeutic way to engage in counselling, allowing for a holistic approach to wellness amidst the natural beauty of the East Neuk of Fife. The serene surroundings of the forest or the tranquil expanse of the beach provide an ideal atmosphere for a peaceful, undisturbed session. Nature has a remarkable way of promoting relaxation and facilitating open conversation. For our initial session, we will meet in my counselling room, where we can discuss your needs and preferences for future meetings. This will enable us to determine the most suitable and comfortable locations for our subsequent walk and talk sessions. I look forward to supporting you on your journey towards healing and self-discovery amidst the tranquillity of the East Neuk of Fife. Sessions are 50 - 60 minutes (A little extra time is given in walk and talk sessions than a standard counselling session to allow for any pauses due to passing walkers etc.
