About me

I can help you talk through the things that you are struggling with. I believe that you are the expert on yourself and that you have many strengths that will assist you in overcoming things that challenge you. Sometimes this can only be realised by talking to someone who understands your difficulties.

I am experienced in helping people with bereavement and loss, anxiety, depression or finding meaning in life. I also specialise in supporting women through menopause and perimenopause and also supporting relatives of women affected by menopause.

I can offer a relaxing space where you can talk openly and in confidence. I can provide an opportunity to talk about things that are difficult to share with others. I can help you to feel better about yourself, your problems and better understand yourself and your feelings, or even to find meaning from life. You can discuss your issues without being judged or criticised, with acceptance and empathy.

Counselling is not about giving advice; it is about allowing you to discuss your issues, without judgement, in a safe and friendly space enabling you to find new ways to help yourself or make changes to your life if you choose to.

I am qualified and hold a BSc Honours in Counselling. I work with an integrative approach, tailoring the therapy to your needs. I am also regularly updating my skills and experience by undertaking further training and qualifications. Examples of further training I have undertaken include outdoor therapy training, acceptance & commitment therapy, art therapy, mental health awareness, and neurobiology of intimate interpersonal trauma.

I also work with counselling students who are looking to complete personal therapy as part of their course requirements.

Thank you for taking the time to read my profile.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

I work in a flexible way with my clients, face to face in a private room, through online video, telephone, or outdoors.

My private clinic room is close to Wigan town centre and has free private parking and is easily accessible by public transport links, with a bus stop less than 5 minutes walk away.

My outdoor therapy practice can involve sitting on a quiet bench in a natural green space, or through walk & talk in several locations which are accessible within Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Cheshire, and Merseyside areas. Working in this way can be less intimidating as we walk or sit side by side and share an outdoor space. This can also accommodate people who have mobility issues as many places are accessible. This is always a flexible arrangement and there is no insistence for you to meet outside especially if the weather forecast is unfavourable. We can move the work to online video or by telephone if you prefer.
