About me

Hi, I'm Gemma, I specialise in the treatment of complex trauma (childhood/adulthood).

You may notice that you're a people pleaser and or a perfectionist and a strong sense that you're an impostor who doesn't deserve it. Perhaps you and the people around you notice that you can react to situations in an exaggerated way emotionally. Perhaps you're struggling with trusting others and therefore have difficulty sustaining relationships or perhaps there are ongoing disputes. You may also struggle to sleep, have difficult dreams and are currently remembering difficult memories, places and people from the past.
In the initial sessions, we are increasing insight into what the problems are you, learning how these are difficulties are maintained before deciding together which treatments would be most suitable, in order to move forwards and reclaim your life.

I believe in recovery from mental health. The word 'recover' tells us that there was once the core self before the trauma was endured. The essence of trauma is disconnection. I am genuinely interested in learning what has caused the separation of yourself and how we can get you connected again to your dreams and hopes.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have enjoyed being part of the NHS since 2003 in various roles (childrens services and addictions services etc) and now offering private therapy since 2021 full time. I have been providing therapy via video call since 2019, and seen how it is just as effective as in person therapy.

I offer safe and confidential therapy with the below treatments:

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)- Diploma in 2018 & accredited with BABCP.

Interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT) accredited with IPTUK since 2021. IPT focuses on complex grief, role transitions in life I.e onset of a chronic illness, difficulties in sustaining relationships and disputes (silent or active) with a significant other.

BSc Occupational Therapy and accredited with HCPC since 2010.

Eye movement desensitisation reprocessing (EMDR) Parts 1,2,3 & part 4 (April 2024).

Compassion focused therapy (advanced) 2020.
