About me

Online counselling.

Anxiety, depression, bereavement, low self- esteem, trauma, abuse. There are so many reasons why people decide to start counselling therapy, and so many experiences and feelings which also prompt this decision.

Here is your opportunity to express yourself and talk about things in a safe, accepting and non- judgemental space.

Whatever you are wanting to get out of your counselling support, be really heard and seen.

  • Explore your issues.
  • Process events.
  • Gain insight.
  • Develop emotional resilience.
  • Work on boundary setting.
  • Work towards acceptance or healing of the self (whatever term you wish to use for a sense of personal resolution).

Feel better.

Work towards wherever you want to be for the future. Its up to you what you bring to our sessions together.

I have extensive experience in working with clients who are experiencing a great variety of issues including: anxiety, depression, narcissistic abuse, trauma, abuse, bereavement, family and relationship issues.

Everyone processes experiences individually, and in different ways. These issues can leave us feeling sad, angry, nervous, fearful, worried for our future and many other emotions.

I work extensively with clients who are experiencing feelings of low self esteem, low self confidence and self worth, to feel more self assured, confident and stronger in themselves.

I support clients in developing a strong internal foundation for living well, happily and healthily.

I also support clients in promoting emotional and mental resilience, healthy balanced emotions, and in personal development work.

I am familiar with the extensive, complex and often traumatic nature of loss in all its forms, and that it may involve complicated, difficult, conflicting feelings and emotions.

I recognise that many life experiences, family issues, work issues, depression, anxiety and other matters can be very traumatic in different ways.

I am experienced in working with and supporting neurodivergent clients.

I support clients in processing and coming to terms with difficult life events, and and working on healthy coping strategies for difficult times.

My aim is to support, listen to, and truly hear clients, and to "walk with the client on their journey" *.

I offer empathy, compassion and a non- judgemental presence for clients, through 50 minute sessions, over a period of weeks, or as a client prefers.

My training is in person centred therapeutic counselling. This approach recognises that each individuals' experience is completely unique. What might work for one person may not work for another. Therefore the approach is designed to be tailored individually for you, to provide an environment of support in which you feel empowered to explore your feelings, experiences and behaviours. This allows you to develop your own inner resources during our work together.

I am trained in mindfulness, meditation and relaxation techniques. These skills and resources are also available to you.

Please feel free to get in touch for a free introductory conversation.

Liz.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

My first session

Prior to our first session I will have emailed you information about confidentiality and the professional terms of our work together. It is very important in order to establish the relationship and terms between us. This can't be vague or woolly, parameters and boundaries are important and necessary in relationships, and this relationship is just the same.

Initially, we can perhaps discuss if this is your first experience of counselling, what has brought you to counselling, what you would like to get out of counselling. You are in charge, so it's up to you.

Clients often choose to have weekly sessions for several weeks, and then move to fortnightly and monthly. Some clients prefer to have a longer or shorter duration of counselling therapy. Regardless, sessions are confirmed on a weekly basis, which allows the client to be the decision maker about the duration of our work together.
