About me

NEW FOR 2024 - Now offering home calls, subject to locality and availability, if this is something which you may find useful, please get in touch.

Hello, I qualified as a counsellor in 2005, I work using an 'Integrative' approach to counselling which means that I work using tools from more than one theory of counselling. I do however try to work using a  'jargon free' approach.

Many people are finding financial matters particularly difficult at the moment, you may want to enter into counselling but are worried about the financial implications.  I offer fortnightly sessions for those who might benefit, if you would like more information on this, please contact me.

My aim is to work with you in a way which will enable you to feel comfortable enough to share what is troubling you. Deciding to come for counselling is a fantastic step towards understanding yourself and the issues bothering you, enabling you to make the necessary changes to live a happier more fulfilled life.

"Thank you for  helping me to be open, adjust and be a better version of me, it's never even felt like a therapy session" -  Client A feedback

We all face times when we find it difficult to deal with life situations, being able to talk about and understand it can offer relief, being able to explore your thoughts and not be judged for them can be incredibly empowering.

"I approached Debbie to help with my 18 year old daughter who was suffering with anxiety and terrible lack of confidence, 18 months on and she is like a changed person, more confident, willing to try and do new things, has passed her driving test and is about to begin uni, just a few things she wouldn't have been able to do previously"

"Debbie is a very approachable lady, easy to talk to with lots of life experience" - Client B

I have experience of working with anxiety, depression, domestic abuse, parenting problems, bereavement, loss and grief, menopause issues, lack of confidence, addiction, family and other relationship problems and phobias.  I can also offer coaching sessions.

What to expect during a counselling session?  In a private setting, whether that be by telephone, video call, email or face to face we will discuss the issues which you are facing along with how they are affecting your life/work/relationships/social life etc.  Sessions will last for 60 minutes and will be led by you, you will be in control.

We will work together, looking at the experiences which are affecting you, how you may be responding to them, along with how you might want to change things.  As I work from an Integrative model of counselling, this means that I use tools from a variety of counselling theories.

I like to work in a relaxed and 'down to earth' way, I believe that the more relaxed in a situation we are, the more we will get out of it. If you feel that we might suit one another, or if you have any questions, please feel free to get in touch where we could arrange and free 30 minute consultation.

Embarking into therapy can feel very daunting, wondering if you will be able to talk to the therapist or if you might even like them, for this reason, I offer a FREE 30 minute initial telephone consultation where we can discuss how we might work together and if we feel that we might be a good 'fit'.  Please get in touch if you'd like to book a call.

Best wishes,

Deborah

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
