About me

Hello, thank you for taking the time to read my profile.

Are you struggling with anxiety, loss, bereavement, your general mental health, or relationship issues?

Are you looking to make a long lasting change?  For new ways of thinking, new tools and understanding?

I am here to help, my approach to counselling is holistic, experiential, mindful,  transpersonal, and reflective. Exploring the present moment against the backdrop and influence of the past, our shadow side, and the control of our subconscious.

As a man in his 60's who has at times had his own struggles with mental health, I understand and can empathise with the reluctance to seek help. Men are often conditioned as young boys to be strong, that weakness is a failure. I have learnt that the real courage is in our vulnerability.

I experienced working with all genders. At the heart of my way of working is compassion, non-judgement, honesty, and candour. I pride myself on my ability to build and maintain deep, empathic, open, authentic, reliable and trusting relationships with my clients.

I offer solution focused counselling, therapy, and coaching. What that means in plain English is that counselling with me is focused and tailored for achieving your desired change.

I understand, respect and empathise with the courage it takes to seek help in our darkest moments. How vulnerable and down you may be feeling, if perhaps you are extremely anxious, feel lost, misunderstood, invisible, unheard, betrayed, or desperate. The pain of loss for something, some part of ourselves, or someone you so cherished and held so deeply in your heart.

As a qualified therapeutic counsellor, trained couples and relationship therapist, and mindfulness teacher my specialist areas of interest are the present moment, innovative tools for symptom reduction, long term effective and easy to implement solutions.

My areas of expertise are anxiety, loss, bereavement, grief, men's mental health, and couples and relationships.

My approach to counselling draws on many different aspects of theory and experience. I offer new ways of thinking, strategies, and reflections on how to calm anxiety, heal from loss, make a long lasting change, resolve conflicts, repair ruptures, recapture intimacy, revitalise the erotic, and build a compelling future.

You will find me empathic to your problems, trustworthy, fair, and candid. I value each client as a unique person and I look forward to meeting and working with you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Additional information

My fees are designed to be fair, reasonable, and accessible. I offer discounts if you book your sessions as a block.

If you are working with me for couples counselling, please bear in mind when considering whether to work with me that my sessions are 1 1/2 hours rather than 50 minutes, and that my sessions are fortnightly as opposed to weekly. Longer sessions fortnightly allows more time and space for discovery and reflection. More time for new strategies and thinking to embed themselves in your relationship, and test what does and doesn't work for you.
