About me

My training background is in humanistic and integrative counselling, which views the relationship between client and counsellor as central to the work. An integrative way of working holds the possibility of bringing several modes into play, under the belief that there is not a ‘one size fits all’ approach to counselling. In this sense, I am client led, and work in a way which I feel is most useful to you, and as the relationship takes shape, the counselling process may shift - counselling can be quite dynamic.

My central aim, as a counsellor, is to seek to understand you, witness you, and attune to you as best as I can.

Whilst it can be incredibly useful to form a logical understanding of your problems and work collaboratively together to find ways to break old patterns, I also try to work with the non-cognitive. I see counselling as a process which explores the whole of an individual, the body, the mind and the soul.

I will not be diagnosing you, and I try to avoid giving advice. I believe that you as the client are the expert on yourself. Sometimes this wisdom can get a bit lost, but this kind of work can help you to re-engage with your own inner wisdom.

Counselling can be a creative process, and sometimes there are other ways of working which can be useful to the work other than just talking. Sometimes I might bring things into our work such as art materials, objects or picture cards. I might invite movement or guided visualisations, but only if it’s something you feel up for doing. I see this as a collaborative process, and I welcome you to suggest anything you think might be useful in our work together.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a Diploma in Humanistic and Integrative Counselling. I trained with BCPC (Bath Centre for Psychotherapy and Counselling).

I am currently a volunteer counsellor for the charity organisation Cotswold Counselling, working with a wide array of issues such as grief, chronic illness, neurodivergency, anxiety, depression trauma, loneliness, low self-esteem and relationship difficulties.

I have also been a volunteer counsellor for the organisation Mind.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
