About me

BA Hons Counselling (2013).  Approved therapist under Barnardo's LINK Adoption Services.

I am one amongst a team of independent counsellors operating from rooms in the Guildford Institute, situated just off North Street in Guildford town centre.  There is ground-floor access with no steps and wide spaces.  My approach is person-centred but if we are specifically working on trauma or adoptive parenting (see below), there may be directive elements to help us remain focussed.  However, at all times, I aim to provide a warm and comfortable atmosphere in which to talk without fear of being judged.  If you experience anxiety or neurodiversity (diagnosed or undiagnosed), you are welcome to visit in advance, or I can supply photographs and brief information on what to expect.

Services offered are:

* Young people / young adults aged 16-24 years - A safe space away from everyday life where you can talk about any difficulties you are experiencing.

* Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET) - A series of up to 16 sessions of trauma therapy for 16+ years.  This is a focussed but supportive therapy which guides clients safely and carefully through traumas they have experienced, in an attentive manner.  Please contact me to learn more and to explore whether this might be a beneficial approach for you.

* People who are adopted, currently aged 16+ - If you are feeling as though you could benefit from a confidential space to talk, and you have a history of being adopted, please contact me for an initial chat.  Trained under Barnardo's, I am also able to support clients through a process of seeking information if  this is required.

* Attachment-Focussed Therapy (AFT) - A series of up to 20 sessions for adoptive parents experiencing a period of challenge.  This therapy aims positively to support you through difficulty for the benefit of parent and child alike.  Please contact me for a confidential chat and to learn more.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
