About me

"A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step" (Confucius) … start your journey with me.

My name is Beth. Thank you for taking the time to find out a little more about me and my counselling practice, where we will be able to connect in a safe and secure person-centred relationship enabling you in your own time to explore your feelings, emotions and worries which will be listened to with understanding, respect and sensitivity.

Time to talk

Many reasons may lead you to think about counselling: feelings of anxiety, confusion, sadness, loss or low mood; being overwhelmed but not understanding why; or a specific issue both past and present such as grief, abuse, divorce or work problems such as stress, redundancy or bullying that you need clarification about.

I understand that it is difficult to admit that you can’t work through these challenges alone; your work-life balance can be affected, and relationships can become strained. It’s often difficult to admit that you need help and that these issues will not sort themselves out but this could be your first step on that journey to a happier, healthier life.

This is where I can help by giving you the space and time to gain a better understanding of what is happening and why. Focusing on the issues affecting you, my counselling offers a safe space to be heard and listened to with respect, acceptance and free of judgment.

Where do I work?

Face to face - my workspace is safe, secure and confidential in Wrexham locations, hopefully accessible to all clients. If you have specific requirements I will try to accommodate them, if possible.

Online - Zoom, WhatsApp, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams. From my home office which is a secure and confidential space where confidentiality is respected.

By telephone - a dedicated work line used in a confidential space.

How I work

I am a fervent believer that each of us can become who we want to be.  My practice is predominantly person-centred; this means the focus of each session is about you and offering you the opportunity to speak, reflect and be heard in a safe place where all of your thoughts and worries are unconditionally acknowledged and accepted without judgment.

So, what happened next?

Our first meeting will be a ‘get to know you’ session.  Here I will explain how we can work together, the methods I use and allow you to ask some questions. You may want to tell me what has brought you to counselling. I understand that this may feel embarrassing or uncomfortable with someone you don’t know there is no pressure, you can tell me as much or as little as you are comfortable with.

It is important that we both feel we are comfortable to take our counselling relationship forward, so building trust is a key element of a healthy therapeutic relationship; it may be that at the end of the first meeting, we decide that my approach isn’t for you, and that’s fine.  I have a network of information and contacts that I will be happy to share with you to ensure you have all of the information you need to find the right support.

My client group

I chose to work with young people aged 11-18 as well as adults regardless of ethnicity, beliefs or sexual orientation.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a recognised and approved qualification in counselling and psychotherapy: a Higher Education Diploma in Counselling Level 5.

I am a qualified teacher and also have a Level 5 NVQ in Leadership and Management and a Level 4 NVQ in Learning and Development.

As a parent, past HE lecturer of 20 years and support officer for young people in need of housing and support I have a passion for facilitating a safe space to talk.  I understand the issues affecting young people and the difficulties of seeking help. My warm and informal approach to counselling helps to break down barriers that may exist between a young person and any adult involved in their care.  It’s sometimes difficult to talk to caregivers about: emotions brought on during adolescence, personal issues such as sexuality, substance misuse, abuse, bullying, body image, eating disorders, relationships and just ‘where you fit in the world’. I can support you through this journey to where you want to be.

In my work with post-18-year-olds I use a similar informality - this is not to be confused with a lack of professionalism.  Having received counselling myself, I understand how feeling comfortable, safe and secure, working with someone who you feel you can trust with your deepest thoughts and emotions is the most important part of the relationship.

I have worked with clients who asked for help with:

  • Abuse - Sexual, physical and emotional
  • Addictions - drug, alcohol, food, relationship …Anger
