About me

Hello and welcome. My name is Ben (he/him) and I am a Humanistic and Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist and I am available for in person therapy at my home office in Warsop near Mansfield, online sessions via Zoom, or a blend of both. I am available at various points throughout the day Monday - Wednesday. Please contact me to find out my specific availability.

I view therapy as a collaborative partnership where together we can safely explore those difficult or painful thoughts and feelings you may be having; without the risk of being judged, criticised, blamed or shamed.

Life can be pretty tough at times and I think it is important to be able to talk things through with someone who is interested, kind, understanding and knowledgable about what you are experiencing.

Whether it is due to a relationship problem, a work-related problem, something that happened in your past, uncertainties about the future, or something entirely different: it is important to talk about it.

As an Integrative therapist, I work in a relationally-focused and developmentally-based way and studied at the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute where I received a BSc honours degree in Counselling & Psychotherapy in 2020. Holding in mind how the impact of one's experiences throughout life shapes the person one becomes, I view the therapeutic relationship as the vehicle for change. To do this, I draw from ideas and theories from Humanistic approaches such as Gestalt, Person-Centred and Existential Psychotherapy as well as Psychodynamic/Psychoanalytic approaches such as Self Psychology, Object Relations, and Attachment theory amongst others to guide my work. To ensure I work in an ethically appropriate way, I engage in regular individual and peer supervision as well as accessing continuing professional development to further my understanding of the therapeutic process.

I believe it is important to find the right therapist for you and so the focus of the first session is on working out together if I might be right for you and if I feel I can provide you with the service you need. If, after meeting with me, you don't feel we click then you are under no obligation to continue with me. Likewise, if I feel that I am not going to be the right therapist for you, I will say so and will help you consider what other options are available to you.

In the first session, we will talk about what your reasons for seeking therapy are along with what you hope to gain from it and how we might work together to achieve those goals. In advance of our first session, I will send you a copy of my pre-therapy information sheet so that you have a good idea of what you can expect from therapy with me.

I know it can feel scary to take that first step and reach out for help - or maybe you're just not sure of how to get started - and so I would like to put you at ease and make it as smooth as possible for you. Please feel free to send me an email to start a conversation about how therapy might help you. From there, we can book an session, in person or on Zoom, where we can explore how we might work together further. If you're happy with that, we can then set up a second session and meet on a weekly basis for as long as we both feel is helpful to you. I aim to respond to my emails within 48 hours - if you have not heard back from me, please check your junk folder as sometimes my emails get sent there by overzealous spam filters.

I trained at the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute in Humanistic and Integrative psychotherapy. My qualification is a BSc (Hons) Counselling and Psychotherapy gained in 2020. Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
