About me

Adult Pyschotherapeutic Counsellor.

Qualified Therapeutic Counsellor for children and young people, incorporating play and creative therapy.

I work with warmth, compassion and equity to create space for you to explore and release a full range of feelings and experiences. My role as a counselling pyschotherapist is to be alongside you, creating a supported therapeutic space for reflection and emotional release. We can work together to explore patterns of being and thinking that you feel a need to adapt.  If you are seeking supported challenge I will encourage you to compassionately explore alternative views on situations and offer support as you experiment with changes. I will help you to recognise your own power and find ways to live your life as well as you possibly can, including supporting you to find ways to manage stressors and difficulties which are not not in your power to control. My role is to support you in taking the risk of sharing and helping you to take care of yourself. Counselling with me is a place where you will have space and time to focus on yourself.

I am a qualified and established child and young person's counsellor and the counselling follows a pro-active approach, fitting to needs and priorities. This is a blend of focused listening, emotionally focused play, creative therapy and CBT.  It offers the opportunity to access, explore and release feelings, examine how to feel safer with big feelings and respond to what is revealed. Play and creativity are applied in keeping with what your child feels is right for them as they are primary ways of communicating and a gateway to learning more about feelings and how to manage them.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Humanistic Psychotherapeutic counselling. I hold a Post Qualifying Diploma in counselling children and young people. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and adhere to their Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions. I hold an enhanced DBS certificate. I also have regular professional supervision which supports me in my counselling and therapeutic practice to the benefit of myself and my clients.

I undertake continuing professional development in the form of training courses, lectures and workshops.

I also work in an agency specialising in counselling for addiction or those affected by addiction. Before becoming a therapeutic counsellor I worked in a variety of public sector roles, including many years as a qualified teacher. I am a parent to two adult sons and have experienced an eventful life to date, living alongside and through many of the challenges that life can send our way.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
