Annie Ford. Counsellor BACP (Accred), Dip Counselling, Adv Dip CBT & Supervisor
It takes courage to take that first step to see a counsellor, you may be feeling a bit stuck or perhaps finding life a bit overwhelming right now. Counselling offers you a safe, confidential space to work through what is troubling you.
I offer a calm, discreet, supportive, non-judgemental and confidential space for you to explore what is important right now. Counselling enhances self-awareness and from that the opportunity to allow new possibilities to emerge and the changes you want to take place. As an experienced counsellor I will work with you to gain renewed self-awareness and balance.
During Covid19 I am working online, outdoors and face to face in my office with safety measures in place.
My Counselling Approach
As a BACP Accredited Counsellor, I have trained to work using Integrative approaches which include person centred and psychodynamic therapy. I have also trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapies (CBT), EMDR Therapy, Mindfulness and Executive Coaching. I tailor my counselling work to suit each client’s individual needs.
With new insight and self-awareness, you will learn how to manage your wellbeing outside the therapy room. Learning to understand your stressors and how they impact on your life can be empowering; with new awareness you can develop strategies to manage them and move forward in your life.
Some of the Issues I work with
Overwhelm, anxiety, depression, panic attacks, stress, bereavement, loss and unhealthy relationships. I find the issues clients bring to counselling are as individual and unique as they are.
Life transition, with stressors related to health, relationships, weddings, divorce, separation, menopause, becoming a new parent, retirement, relocation to a new area, university life, career or work situations etc.
Personal and private issues can be difficult to express to friends and family, our work will help you move towards accepting and supporting yourself without fear of judgement.
As a Macmillan Nurse and Midwife, I have worked in Womens Health for many years and understand the complexities of settling into new roles, cancer, infertility and loss for individuals and families. As a Coach I have worked with clients experiencing challenges in the work place, dealing with restructuring, bullying and now new ways of working during the Pandemic Covid-19.
As well as my private counselling practice, I manage and facilitate 2 day cancer support retreats and secondary breast cancer groups across Devon and Somerset and online during Covid19.
I also offer 1:1 retreat days at a retreat centre close to my home office, this is for individuals or couples dealing with life changing issues, the work is bespoke so please get in touch, if you feel this may support you at this time. Note overnight stays may also be available on request at the retreat centre.
I offer a free introductory session, giving you the opportunity to ask questions as well as explore whether counselling is right for you right now.

Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
