About me

I'm a qualified CBT Therapist (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and Integrative Counsellor and I help adults and adolescents to get out of stuck, negative emotional states such as anxiety, depression or low mood, anger and low self-confidence. I'm trained to work with a broad range of psychological health challenges including; anxiety, panic attacks, depression, insomnia, agoraphobia, overwhelming feelings, phobias, OCD, IBS, low self-worth and confidence, to name but a few. My approach is both adaptive and solution orientated and works best for people who want to change how they are feeling, thinking and behaving using a range of CBT models.

My approach is compassionate and gentle, but also active and interventionist to empower you with knowledge, tools and strategies to identify and change destructive mindsets that impact so greatly on our wellbeing. After a thorough assessment, I will teach you tools and strategies that you can use for life to manage difficult emotions.

I currently work with clients using Zoom, Skype or telephone which works really well for this type of therapy. We will work at your own pace and I will adapt to you, bringing in a range of different CBT approaches depending on what will be most helpful for you (including EMDR for trauma).

Training, qualifications & experience

I qualified as an Integrative Counsellor in 2020 and have also completed 3 further diplomas/advanced diplomas in CBT and Integrative CBT models, as well as a specialist diploma in counselling Children and Adolescents. My past experience includes working in an NHS GP practice, Kent University Counselling service and Canterbury College counselling service and now I run my own Private Practice as well as working for The Priory in Canterbury as a Sessional CBT Therapist.

Counselling & Psychotherapy qualifications: Dip Couns, Dip CBT, Adv. Dip CBT, Adv. Dip Integrative CBT, Level 5 Cert. Counselling Children & Adolescents.

Non-psychotherapy qualifications: BA Hons Oxon, MA Oxon.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

My first session:
I offer a 20 minute free consultation so that you can find out more about how I work and I can find out more about you and the issue(s) you want to work on. From there you can decide if you feel we are a good fit.

In our first session I will explain more about how the therapy works, confidentiality and other important boundaries and we will form a working agreement. From there I will ask a range of questions so that I can get a full picture of you (your background, any previous counselling/therapy, any medication, the current challenges you are facing etc) to enable a thorough assessment. And then together we will come up with a problem list and agree which one to work on first.
