About me

About me as a counsellor.

My name is Amy, I am a person-centred counsellor who is warm, welcoming and understanding. I am passionate about counselling and the human experience. I am here to empower clients to live to their full potential and become more resilient while being their true self.

I want to make your counselling experience as easy as possible while getting to the root of any problems you may face. I intend to support you by being empathetic, and compassionate and develop your self-understanding. In our therapeutic relationship not only do I hear what you are saying, but I feel what you are saying and project it back to you with non-judgmental care.

I understand the counselling process is daunting and trying to pick “the right one” is difficult. That’s why its important to me to offer you a free introductory call so you can get a feel for me before you commit to book anything. This is a no obligation call so you can ensure this feels right for you.

If you feel the call went well, then we can book a session and together we can address and clarify the issues that concern you most. I aspire to assist you in discovering your full potential for personal development.

I have experience in sexual abuse counselling, working with neurodiverse clients and trauma cases including pre-trial therapy. I also have a professional interest in trauma and men's mental health.  I am a visual counsellor therefore offer video online sessions, face to face and walk-and-talk therapy in the Beverley, East Yorkshire area.  Please note I have a cat on my premises, so if you are allergic please keep this in mind with face to face sessions.
You can have sessions weekly, fortnightly or monthly depending on the issue or severity of your problem. I can also offer one off sessions if you feel you need to offload.

How counselling can help you.

Person centred counselling facilitates personal growth, this means as our professional relationship develops with trust, understanding and support. I can then, walk through those emotions and feelings with you, and reflect that back so you become more self aware.

as you become increasingly self aware you become

  • More authentic and make active choices
  • Increasingly more self confident with higher self esteem and self worth
  • Reduce internal conflict and perform assertively
  • Build healthier relationships
  • Begin to gain greater control of being in the present instead of being conditioned about our past
  • Identify who you are and find peace in who you are and who you are not.
  • become the person you want to be.

What to expect from your first counselling session.

  1. In our first meeting i will make sure you have everything you need to feel comfortable, wether that be a drink or if your on video i will ensure your in a safe space so there are minimal distractions as possible.
  2. i will then go briefly go through our contract and ask if there is anything else you would like to add or questions you have to check we understand how we will work together safely.
  3.  Then, i will ask you to tell me a little about yourself and what brought you to therapy . I usually ask questions during this time to clarify my understanding and recognise how this effects you.

I like my clients to express themselves in how they are comfortable so if that’s bringing a line of a song, artwork or explaining visual images you see, this is really helpful for me to see the world how you do.

Usually the 60 minutes goes faster than you think! I will keep an eye on the time so just relax into the session.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
