About me
I am an experienced art psychotherapist working with adults, children and teenagers with emotional and psychological needs. I have experience working with adult trauma; attachment difficulties / developmental trauma in children; mental health conditions in adults and children; adult addiction and difficulties associated with neuro divergence in adults and children.
Art psychotherapy involves a choice to explore nonverbal expression using art materials, alongside talking. Psychotherapy is an approach that encourages a deeper awareness and understanding of the unconscious processes, that may inadvertently get in our way.
No one needs to be 'good' at art to benefit and art therapists do not analyse your artwork, or even expect art making if that's not a preference. The art can help reveal what is unconscious. We can also talk and think using helpful imagery, so the verbal element runs through an art psychotherapy approach.
Creativity is perhaps easier to access as a child and most of us have had experience of freely creating, at one point. Art psychotherapy can support us to understand ourselves, both through talking and also by engaging with our creativity once again. We can learn to better understand ourselves through our non verbal processes and expressions and also enjoy the creative process. People can find that is a more tolerable way to explore problems, especially when words or feelings are difficult to say, to find, or to explain.
The way I work is empathically person centered, and tailored to your needs and goals for therapy. I consider that most of us have a creative drive to work towards and reach our personal potential for healing, happiness and fulfillment. Sometimes it is difficult to do this alone. Art psychotherapy can gently guide us toward a sense of acceptance and wholeness in a creative way.
I offer time limited and longer term options, for face to face therapy sessions in my home studio (materials included). I can offer online sessions too.
