Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

WORKSHOPS

Experiential CPD in Expressive Arts Therapy. Avaliable for groups and individuals.

I am a European Graduate School (CAGS) accredited Expressive Arts Therapy trainer This training  is open to practicing and in-training Counsellors, Psychotherapists and Therapeutic Practitioners.

Expressive Arts Therapy (EXA): Unlike The U.K. model of Art Therapy where the arts therapies are seperatist and practiced seperately as (Art, Music, Drama, Dance,) as HCPC separately protected titles. Expressive Arts Therapy looks at how the Arts can be therapeutically used in an Inter-Modal or Multi-Modal way, by moving expressively and experientially between the arts disciplines without imediate anlysis or interpretation. This process can help us to acces deeply felt, direct experience whilst moving therapeutically between the Art Modes of Movement, Sound, Visual, Tactile and Written or Aural Arts.

What is EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing?

I have a level four EMDR Practitioners qualification which is the final and completion training level. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a psychological treatment to help people deal with distressing events and trauma. EMDR works in a way that seems to accelerate the processes for resolving certain issues so that in many instances people are seen to have resolved certain issues in a much shorter time than through talking therapy/counselling alone.

EMDR is an approach that is effective for the treatment of traumatic memories.
EMDR aims to change how people feel about their traumatic memories. It helps people to develop more positive emotions, behaviour and thoughts and to feel that the memory is no long disturbing. EMDR appears to directly stimulate the brain's ability to digest past traumatic events and works effectively and quickly to heal the wounds that are left on the emotional brain. It has been widely validated by research and is recognised by NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence) as the treatment of choice for PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).

EMDR is also remarkably effective in the treatment of people who have suffered trauma such as ongoing childhood abuse, although this may require more extensive therapeutic time. EMDR has also been shown to be effective in treating more chronic problems such as anxiety, stress, phobias, addictions and lack of self confidence.
