About me

The demands of modern life can be overwhelming, difficult to navigate and at times, lonely.  Even more so when trauma, anxiety and depression are triggering or weighing down the brain, body and soul.  Having someone who ‘meets you’ non-judgementally and bears witness to whatever is presented can be liberating and deeply meaningful.

My work is in EMDR and Integrative Psychotherapy and I aim to facilitate a healing process for clients with PTSD and trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, early and recent abuse and many other challenges.  I offer practical calming strategies to take away and feel a sense of ease between sessions.

I can work with adults, adolescents, children and babies and welcome clients from all backgrounds.  I can work short term with EMDR and short or longer-term with Integrative Psychotherapy.  I use play and the arts where appropriate.

I am privileged to have been trained in EMDR and AF-EMDR (Attachment-Focused EMDR) by senior clinicians who are protégés of Dr Francine Shapiro, the person who discovered and researched the modality in the 1980s.  I am grateful to be able to be part of Dr Shapiro’s legacy and vision to help as many people as possible overcome their difficulties with EMDR.  https://www.emdria.org/about-emdr-therapy/

My therapy room is in a self-contained wooden cabin and is a private and quiet environment that offers a feeling of safety.

Client feedback:

Client 1

"I want to thank you sincerely for everything you did in making my emdr journey such an amazing experience.  Your kindness, gentle non judgement and openness helped me so much and I am so grateful for your time, flexibility and facilitating it all. It has been utterly transformative and so powerful for me (and I almost can’t believe in such a relatively short time frame too) and I want to thank you truly for creating such a safe, warm, nurturing space for me to process in, both physically in your beautiful cabin, and emotionally & mentally.

"The work we did together has helped me make the deepest and most significant changes I have ever made, and as a result I feel happy and excited about life in a way I can’t remember feeling before and didn’t really believe was possible for me.  I feel real peace with where I’ve been, comfortable where I am now, and also quite calm about the future, as I now have tools to use in the going forward when life gets tricky; it has been completely life changing. Thank you, truly, to you and to Scout as well!"

Client 2

“Since doing the EMDR work with Victoria I can honestly say that I have felt confident to bring up and work through some of my deepest secrets, insecurities and traumas.

I have gone from using dissociation and anger to mask my problems, to face them head on, allowing my body and mind to process my experiences. This has given me confidence in myself, shown me what self care looks like, given me  a safe space to open up and heal some old wounds and encourage me to make rational choices within irrational moments.

I honestly can not thank Victoria enough for how far she has bought me, and giving me the resources and self regulating skills that I have learnt throughout the healing journey. “

Client 3

"I’ve tried a variety of therapies and therapists over the last 30 years and I can honestly say, 3 months on, that the EMDR I had with Victoria has been the most effective. To some extent it has been life-changing, and that change has been confirmed by close family and friends. Now, every day is a good day because I am able to feel both confident and competent in who I am and what I do.

"I hadn’t been able to acknowledge, or accept, that much of my struggles were as a result of trauma - little ’t’ trauma. By working with Victoria I was able to explore events and change the way I thought and felt about them, without involving anyone else. This was a key component as there was no-one to challenge my version of events, or how I felt, and no sense of conflict, yet with Victoria’s skills the healing of each event was instantaneous, meaning I left each session feeling free to be me.

"I worked with Victoria on a weekly basis for a number of months, until our work together seemed complete, but I will undoubtedly keep her contact details for when/if I feel I need more of her magic!"

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
