I am an experienced CBT Therapist with a proven track record of effectively delivering evidence based treatment.
I have been qualified as a therapist for the last 14 years and I have been employed by the NHS as therapist for 11 years. I have worked consistently over that period of time delivering somewhere in the region of 4 - 5000 hours of therapy. I work with a broad spectrum of difficulties such as depressive conditions, anxiety disorders such as social anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), health anxiety, panic disorder with and without agoraphobia, low self esteem, trauma, work related stress, bereavement and pornography addiction.
My approach is collaborative as working together is a vital part of helping to make therapy a success for people. I firmly believe in order for therapy to work we as therapists need to actually be able to listen and hear the person as this can all to often be lost in favour of technique and what the “expert” thinks the person needs.
Helping you to understand what is actually happening to you is the first part of treatment, things become easier to manage when we can understand them more clearly - think of things in your life you have struggled with and how you felt when you understood them a bit better. The other part of treatment is built around helping you to manage your difficulties by taking back some form of control over them. My job as a therapist is to help you manage your difficulties effectively beyond the sessions in order to facilitate my own redundancy!
The first session is an assessment of the difficulties you are facing and from there we can begin to formulate a treatment plan. I am happy to have an informal discussion with you about therapy and thes difficulties you are facing and how I can help you - if you prefer you can drop me an e-mail and we can take it from there. I am also happy to provide telephone sessions.
I am primarily trained in the cognitive behaviour tradition but I draw upon different disciplines and theoretical models such as evolutionary psychology, sociology and biology to help gain a greater understanding of the whole person located in the context of their own lives as they live them. I believe in starting with the individual in the context of their life and how they alone experience their difficulties.

My personal areas of interest are around neurobiology and neuroscience in other words how our brains are formed and how they function and the impact that experiences have on our brains as 70% of our brain development is dependent on our experiences both good and bad. Understanding some of the basics of how this fantastic organ works allows us the chance to gain a window into the inner workings of our anxieties and mood difficulties.
Before qualifying as a therapist I worked with the rough sleeping community for 2.5 years providing help and support to complex individuals. I also worked for 3 years with mental health crisis services specialising in suicide and self harm. I also worked with young people at Barnardos for 1 year. I started off life in the manufacturing sector.
