About me

Thank you for reading my profile.

I understand how life challenges us in different ways and to talk about yourself and what you are experiencing can be daunting.  It is important you find the right person when seeking counselling support.

As a Person-Centred Counsellor, it is important to me to provide a safe, confidential and non-judgmental environment for you to feel comfortable to talk.  My approach is to gently explore what you are experiencing so it makes more sense to you.  I hope that having a better understanding offers you reassurance and with greater clarity helps you manage and cope more confidently.  I understand how past experiences can continue to affect us in our current life but we may not be fully aware of the impact on us.  Understanding connections from our past offers clarity that helps us see ourselves for who we really are and how we cope with our lives.  My aim is to help you move forward and benefit from the way you want to live your life.

I offer short-term counselling, where we can work through more immediate and specific problems or longer-term psychotherapy for more intricate and deeper exploration.

As a BACP Accredited Counsellor with over 17 years experience, I work with adults, young people and couples.  I have worked with students and staff within Higher Education, provided trauma and grief counselling within a Bereavement Service and worked with 12-24 year olds within a Young Person’s Counselling Service.

I provide support with relationship difficulties; low mood; depression; anxiety; panic attacks; self-esteem; loss/bereavement; life-limiting illness; health/medical diagnosis; trauma; abuse; assault; self-harm and suicidal thoughts; violence; anger; eating disorders and body image.  I can help you work through a specific problem or talk through a traumatic or distressing event.  I can support you to work through feelings or inner conflicts, help you make decisions, explore relationships.  To help you communicate with others, face challenges, cope with a crisis or difficult situation, to manage change.

Please contact me - I believe having an initial telephone conversation will help you to get to know me, how I work and how best I can help you.  I can answer any questions or queries you may have.

I have enhanced DBS clearance and I am fully insured.

Working within Education

I have a lot of experience working with students both within Further and Higher Education. I have worked at both Universities in Nottingham providing support for students.  I do understand all the pressures of University life how this impacts on students and staff.

Education is recognised as an area that is highly stressful for both staff and students.  There are many demands, pressures and challenges to manage, often within a time constraint.  This can make it difficult to deal with for all different reasons.

Whether you have just started your journey at University, either as an Undergraduate, Postgraduate or PhD, or you have been studying for a few years now; whatever you may be experiencing – I would like to help.

I understand the peer pressures as well as the academic expectations, the difficulties and demands that you may be facing to reach your true potential; the struggles to work and maintain high standards and achieve good grades; and possibly the disappointments and disillusions that you may experience and need to manage.

The demands you face to maintain a social life whilst managing the pressures of study.  The different relationships you develop in your studies, social groups and who you live with.  The change of environment, settling in or cultural differences you have to deal with.  All of these can impact on you in different ways.

I understand the stresses of time management; how personal issues can impact on your concentration and affect your studies; and the consequences on you personally for your future. Not coping or feeling overwhelmed can be a trigger for anxiety, panic attacks and sleep deprivation.

I have supported students who have overcome a variety of challenges whilst at University and I really do believe I can help you.  Whatever level of education, whether you are a student studying Higher or Further Education or even taking GCSEs, I can assist you with strategies to help you to manage yourself particularly through the pressure points.

Couple Counselling

I work within a person-centred approach to support the communication between you both as a couple.  I believe it is important that you are both equal within the therapeutic relationship and you are listened to and valued.  I aim to create a safe space where your opinions and feelings can be expressed, experienced, exchanged and understood.

I want you to talk freely by expressing and explaining how you feel and what you are experiencing individually.  It helps to recognise misunderstandings and how these can impact on you individually.  It is alright to say when you are feeling upset or hurt because it is important that you can say it exactly as it is.

It is a big commitment to attend therapy as a couple, I hope you can take the first step and get in touch with me.

My room is easily accessible as I am located on Fletcher Gate which is central to the Nottingham City Centre.  It is easy to get to as there is a tram stop on Fletcher Gate and is a short distance from the centre of Nottingham.

Experience

I have 23 years experience within Further and Higher Education; 10 years in Higher Education.

I have over 13 years experience working with young people and adults. I have worked within a young person’s Counselling Service supporting teenagers and young people.

I worked within a Bereavement Service for 6 years, Treetops Hospice, Risley - the complexity and sensitivity of losing someone important to you.

Working with trauma is a delicate process and has to be taken slowly over a longer period of time.  It may be a recent experience that has been traumatic to manage or an experience that has been triggered or resurfaced from a previous episode in your earlier life.  I can help you to understand what you are experiencing and how to manage and cope.

Over the years I have experience working with all different issues that can impact on someone in their life. Difficulties that are related to culture, race, religion, faith, background, sexuality and gender identity; living with a long-term health condition, a recent health diagnosis or disability.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
