About me

WHAT I CAN OFFER YOU

As a professionally qualified therapist, I am also an accredited member of the British Association of Counsellors & Psychotherapists (BACP). Working with both adults and children (age groups 4-18) I use an integrative method, allowing a combination of therapeutic approaches, which meets each individual's needs.

In order to grow a genuine, honest relationship with my clients, I use an empathic and confidential safe space, allowing my client to fully explore and I listen to their concerns non-judgementally. When we are heard and understood it is easier to come to a clearer understanding and greater acceptance of our self.  With this understanding and acceptance, we are able to grow and heal. All sessions are at the client’s pace and fully client led. My role is to offer support and methods of working in.

HOW THE SESSIONS WORK

I appreciate how difficult making the first move to talk to someone can be, this can create an anxiety in itself. It is key for the relationship between client and therapist to be right for the session to be of benefit. For this reason, I am happy to answer any questions via email or have a 15-minute talk on the telephone to allow you to see if I am the right person for you.

I am able to provide face to face, online, video call or telephone counselling to work through any concerns that may arise for you. Sessions will be held in the same way on an agreed day and time. This can then remain the same or return to face to face once safe to do so.

MY COUNSELLING EXPERIENCE

I have a wealth of experience of working with loss, bereavement, anxiety, depression, postnatal depression and other mental health conditions. Alongside my private practice, I work in education, providing therapy to children and parents presenting with trauma, depression, anxiety, loss, relationship issues, abuse, ADHD, Autism and other difficulties these issues may bring for the client. I also work as a perinatal therapist within the NHS providing support for clients during the perinatal period on a range of complex issues.

I am trained in DBT skills - Dialectical Behaviour Therapy - which is used to treat mood disorders, suicidal ideation, self-harm and substance abuse. This is about working to increase the emotional and cognitive regulation and learning the triggers that lead to our reactive states and assessing the right coping skills to apply to thoughts, feelings and behaviours helping to avoid undesired reactions. I facilitate groups for different organisations supporting change for many clients with the use of DBT skills.

Alongside this, I have a wealth of experience of previously working for a multi-national company and a full awareness of the stresses such work/home-life balance can bring.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Additional information

I offer an initial assessment for us to speak on the phone and to understand what are your main reasons for seeking support via counselling and what you would like to achieve from our sessions together. This will also give you the opportunity to see how you feel about working with me before committing yourself to counselling. This initial session is free and will take approx 15 mins.

Thereafter, sessions are for a duration of 50mins on a weekly basis.  All sessions are to be paid for in full prior to the session.  Fees can be provided upon request.
