About me

I have been working as a Counselling Psychologist in clinical and educational settings since 2003 and currently manage a specialist therapeutic service in the voluntary sector. I have worked with children and adolescents but have come to specialise in working with adults.

My integrative approach is at the core of my therapeutic philosophy, understanding that each individual is unique and that there is no one size fits all approach to mental health.
In my therapeutic work, I draw from existential, humanist, psychodynamic, constructivist and systemic frameworks.

I have an interest in feminism, social justice, critical psychology and eco-psychology, and consider specific issues raised by these to contribute to my practice.

I am committed to providing a warm, empathetic and safe environment, where we can focus on developing a trusting therapeutic relationship and work together in a transparent way. My goal is to support your emotional wellbeing, assist you in gaining insight, find hope and facilitate growth to achieve any desired change.

I have extensive experience working with adults experiencing low mood, anxiety, interpersonal and relationship issues, grief and loss, low self-esteem, trauma, and clients going through life transitions.

Therapeutic work

Low-intensity, short-term:

Not everyone requires or wishes to have intensive, long-term therapeutic work. You may be seeking support for milder emotional difficulties or have a preference for a more flexible and brief therapeutic experience. If this is the case, I can offer low-intensity therapeutic work, involving a shorter time frame, identifying specific goals and developing strategies to cope with whatever challenges you may be facing. This approach suits those dealing with mild stress, situational difficulties or seeking personal growth.

High-intensity, long-term:

There may be occasions in your life when you feel the need to explore deeply rooted issues that have been affecting you consistently or significantly. This might indicate the need to spend more time exploring what those issues are and how you would like therapy to enable you to move forward. We can work together for a longer period of time (whether open-ended or with an agreed time frame) and renegotiate therapeutic goals if required. This approach suits those dealing with chronic or complex issues, such as trauma, grief, illness or more significant difficulties in daily functioning.

The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.

They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.

Further information

As a bilingual practitioner speaking English and Portuguese, I am particularly interested in the existential and practical impact of relocation. I understand the challenges and opportunities that come hand in hand with living abroad and its transformational potential, as well as the longing for familiarity and a sense of belonging.

I offer a culturally sensitive, inclusive practice and embrace and celebrate the richness that diversity brings to the therapeutic process.
