About me

I love to work with individuals to build a trusting relationship and provide a safe and supportive space in which you can explore your concerns and find insight about your experiences. Through this exploration we can work towards the changes you are hoping for.

For clients preferring face to face therapy, I work from a room in Brandside Parish Hall just south of Buxton - probably one of the highest (altitude) practices in the UK.

Alternatively, we can walk and talk. I am passionate about the benefits to clients of being in a natural (and sometimes wild) environment. It can help in your therapeutic journey and so I also offer sessions in the outdoors. We can explore your issues in one of the many naturally therapeutic locations around the Buxton area. I use a variety of routes and spaces to suit your fitness or expectation.

I also offer telephone or zoom video sessions, and have specialist training on the differences and challenges that working remotely brings.

Training, qualifications & experience

I'm a qualified counsellor with a L4 Diploma in Counselling including work with individuals and couples.  My training predominately concentrated on the psychodynamic approach to therapy.

I have worked with various charities including Centre33, CPSL Mind, and Lifeline in Cambridgeshire before relocating to the Peak District.

As a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, I undertake to complete continual professional development, and I abide by their professional code of ethics.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information

Before we begin counselling I offer a free half hour appointment (normally by telephone) in which we can explore your hopes for therapy. I'll explain how we might work together and explore the style of therapy which might best suit you and your circumstances.

My face to face sessions are in a small parish hall at Brandside, just south of Buxton. Please see the 'contact' page on my website for a map of the location.

If you are interested in the benefits of walking and talking, I offer sessions in the outdoors in and around the Buxton area. If you would prefer this style of therapy, note that we may occasionally need to revert to 'Telephone' or 'Zoom' in the unusual situation that the weather makes it impossible to hold a constructive outdoor session. I'll normally contact you the evening before if this is the case.

For clients who would prefer counselling from the safety of their own home, I offer telephone or video conferencing based sessions. You'll need a private space in your home free from distraction. A stable internet connection is needed for video calls.

I have a small number of sessions held specifically for short term engagements at concessionary rates. If this is of interest to you please ask during our initial consultation.
