About me
I am committed to building trusting, collaborative relationships with my clients, creating a safe and supportive environment where you can explore your concerns and develop deeper insight into your experiences. Together, we can work towards the meaningful changes you are seeking.
For those who prefer face-to-face sessions, I offer therapy from a comfortable room in Buxton town centre.
I also provide “walk and talk” sessions, drawing on the therapeutic benefits of being in natural—sometimes more rugged—outdoor environments. Many clients find that engaging with nature enhances their therapeutic journey. Sessions can take place in a variety of thoughtfully chosen locations around the Buxton area, with routes tailored to suit your fitness level and personal preferences.
In addition, I offer telephone and Zoom sessions. I have undertaken specialist training to effectively support clients online, with an understanding of the unique opportunities and challenges that remote therapy can bring.
Training, qualifications & experience
I'm a qualified counsellor with an MSc in Advanced Counselling and Psychotherapy. My initial training concentrated on the psychodynamic approach to therapy, but more recently, I have found that integrating compassion-focused therapy and mindfulness in a natural setting helps some clients.
I came to counselling as a change in career direction after experiencing the benefits for myself. I was stressed, experiencing career burnout, depressed, and slowly shutting down emotionally. I appreciated the space in which to process and sort through the feelings I had been ignoring and pushing away.
I aim to provide you with a safe and supportive space in which you can explore how you feel about your own experience. I'll be led by you, and we'll go at a pace that suits you to allow time to process what you bring to therapy. Being heard is the first step in helping you move towards coping, making changes, or exploring your situation.
I have worked with various charities including Centre33 (Support and Young Carers services), CPSL Mind (Changing Lives Counsellor), and Lifeline (a mental health helpline). I also spent some time as a counsellor at HM Prison Bedford. When I relocated from Cambridgeshire to the Peak District, I set up my own private practice, and I now offer counselling outdoors, online, and in-room.
As a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), I undertake to complete continuing professional development and abide by its professional code of ethics.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information
Before we begin counselling I offer a free half hour appointment (normally by telephone) in which we can explore your hopes for therapy. I'll explain how we might work together and explore the style of therapy which might best suit you and your circumstances.
My face to face sessions are in a comfortable room in Buxton town centre. Please see the 'contact' page on my website for a map of the location.
If you are interested in the benefits of walking and talking, I offer sessions in the outdoors in and around the Buxton area. If you would prefer this style of therapy, note that we may occasionally need to revert to 'Telephone' or 'Zoom' if the weather makes it impossible to hold a constructive outdoor session. I'll normally contact you the evening before if this is the case.
For clients who would prefer counselling from the safety of their own home, I offer telephone or video conferencing based sessions. You'll need a private space in your home free from distraction. A stable internet connection is needed for video calls.
I have a small number of sessions held specifically for short term engagements at concessionary rates. If this is of interest to you please ask during our initial consultation.
