About me

My name is Sarah,

I provide a non-judgmental, respectful, supportive and confidential environment. I believe the quality of the relationship is paramount to the therapeutic work.  A positive relationship ensures for a person to feel heard and respected, which allows those who I work with to find a better understanding of themselves, at their pace.

I work using an integrative approach, drawing on my psychology degree, my person-centred training, and other methodologies I have knowledge of, this includes the psychodynamic approach and cognitive behavioural therapy, (CBT).   I understand that everyone is a unique individual, therefore sessions are tailored to meet a person's needs.

When you make contact with me, I will email you to offer you a free introductory telephone call, (there is no obligation to work with me) this allows us to arrange a mutually convenient time to have the call and to ensure you can be in confidential space when you  speak with me.

I will always reply to an enquiry, please check your junk email.

During the call my aim will be to understand the issues that bring you to counselling and to explain how I work. During this you can decide if I am the right counsellor for you.

What to expect in your first session:

During the first session I will be an initial assessment, I will be gathering further information about you and we can discuss the goals of therapy, what issues you feel you want to work on/resolve and how you want to move forwards. The first session is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions.

During the sessions I will work at the pace of that is right for you and I will work on the issues that you wish to bring into the sessions, and you wish to discuss.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have experience of working within charitable organizations, educational settings and the NHS.

As a therapist I have worked with a diverse range of clients and issues, I understand that issues that people face are complex and affect people in different ways and I have experience of working with and supporting people with a variety of difficulties and issues, these are listed within the presentation section below.

I support my clients and work in a person-centred way, working with the individual to help them understand themselves better, explore strategies to help to improve communication and relating with others and implement strategies to enable an individual to manage daily life and to be an advocate from themselves and exploring ways to improve quality of life and an individual’s emotional wellbeing, mental health, to improve confidence and self-esteem.

I also have experience of working with autistic individuals and individuals with ADHD this is both in therapeutic roles and non-therapeutic roles.

From my experience of working with autistic individuals, I understand the difficulties of social communication and relating with others can be confusing, the impact of alexithymia the difficulties of understating emotions, sensory processing and sensory overload can be distressing, and how theory of mind and executive functioning impacts daily life.

In terms of working with individuals with ADHD, I understand people face difficulties with  concentration, processing information, completing tasks, and executive functioning difficulties. I also understand individuals have difficulties in controlling emotions, managing impulse control and experience difficulties social interactions.

Within the sessions we will explore strategies to help you  to improve communication and relating with others, to implement strategies to enable you to manage daily life and to be an advocate for yourself. Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
