About me

Hello, I'm Sandra Xavier a person-centred counsellor. I offer online counselling & walk and talk therapy based in Glasgow. I have worked with a variety of issues including work-stress, immigration, mid-life crisis, menopause, bereavement, abusive relationships, generational trauma, family issues, bullying, self-harm, depression, stress, low self-esteem and anxiety.

I am an Indian with a mixed bag of cultures. I speak English as my first language while I am also fluent in Hindi and Urdu. I enjoy reading and travelling, meeting new people and animals, exploring different cultures, and I mostly find myself seeking nature.

I have grown up in diverse cultures and understand various customs, religions, traditions and family dynamics. As an immigrant, I also have an understanding of the challenges that come with moving to a new country. What you can expect from me is a curiosity to understand your world and you within it.

I offer empathy with honesty and can assure you that I will be with you as we explore places that feel uncomfortable and challenging. I will work with the goals you set for counselling and check-in with you every step of the way. We will work as a team and I will always respect your boundaries. Honesty will be the key to this alliance. It is important for me to know how you truly feel within counselling, so we can make this an experience that is supportive for you.

I have trained in more than one approach of counselling and use art, experiential exercises and creativity in my practice. I will draw upon these approaches and tools to facilitate your process while respecting your comfort. I mainly practice the person-centred approach of counselling and it is quite simply what it says - you are the centre and together we are going to look at the world from your perspective. I look forward to meeting you, irrespective of where you are from.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
