About me

Every therapist works differently, depending on their training and experience. The way I work can be described as client-centred and I focus on what you feel is important to you. However, it is collaborative process and it is not uncommon to want help yet also feel unsure on where to start.

Part of my role as a therapist is to help you identify what is the most urgent to focus on. I draw on different approaches, techniques and modalities based on your goals. I am flexible and I will adapt if something else comes up, if you want to work on more than one issue, or you want to change your focus. This is a natural part of the process, often it is not linear and requires flexibility.

Therapy is an investment in yourself for change and it is important we are both clear on the focus and goal of the work. I will regularly review how the work is progressing to determine if it requires any fine-tuning to my approach. The most important part of the process is the relationship between client and therapist and I always welcome feedback to encourage you to get the most from the process.

To get the best out of the therapy sessions I start with an initial consultation. This is an opportunity for you to explore a number of questions and for us both to decide whether we will work together and provide an opportunity for you to put into words what has caused you to seek therapy.

Nothing is off limits for discussion in therapy and anything you bring to the session will be treated with sensitivity, in a non-judgmental and open-minded way.

Each therapy session runs for 50 minutes at the same weekly time on an open-ended basis. The length of the therapy is discussed together as we proceed. Addition time can be managed upon request.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have been working in the helping profession since the year 2000 and completed my training as a humanistic integrative counsellor and psychotherapist in 2006 and work with adult individuals.

I hold a BACP Accredited Advanced Diploma in Humanistic Integrative Counselling and have had additional training in bereavement, short term counselling, abuse, alcohol, anger management and anxiety. I attend annual professional development regularly to keep up to date with new legislation and research. Some of these have recently been in trauma and complex post-traumatic stress disorder.

I am also a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and The National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS), which provide an ethical framework for good practice. All my work is supported by a clinical supervisor in line with BACP and NCPS recommendations.

In 2013 the NCS register was accredited by the Professional Standards Authority under the Accredited Voluntary Register Scheme. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
