About me

My counselling career has varied from working with individuals, secondary school pupils and sports players.

I have a good understanding of various difficulties that clients/pupils experience.

Working with Individuals

Counselling in private practice has helped me gain experience surrounding a diverse range of issues that clients presented, these included:-

  • Low self-confidence, low self-esteem
  • Stress and Anxiety
  • Depression, suicidal thoughts, self-harm
  • Coping with loss and Bereavement
  • Physical, emotional and sexual abuse
  • Trauma, relationship difficulties and Anger
  • ADHD, ADD, Autism and Aspergers
  • Addiction (Alcohol, Drugs, Gambling)
  • Obsessive behaviour

Working with Children

Working in a secondary school, counselling pupils (ages 11-16) has enabled me to understand issues they may experience in the school environment and at home.

Person-centred counselling helps the pupils to work through their issues and difficulties. These can include all the same issues as individuals but may also include friendship groups, loneliness and making sense of their sexuality.

Working with Sports players

Being a part of the counsellor's network for The Sporting Chance Clinic enables me to counsel sports players from all areas, football, rugby league, cricket, horse racing, squash, darts, snooker and tennis.

Counselling can offer support to players from all areas of sport, helping them to work through issues that may include:-

  • Release from any sporting club through injury or retirement
  • Looking at athletic Identity (finding self again)
  • Player performance issues surrounding anxiety
  • Addiction (alcohol & Drugs)
  • Gambling
  • Money problems
  • players attached to their sports clubs suffering from anxiety.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Practice description

Person-centred counselling is my chosen theory in counselling practice. It creates a relationship and environment where the client feels safe to share and grow, offering compassion, empathy and understanding along the journey that we take together.

Good emotional health is fundamental to our well-being and ability to deal with challenges that life brings. You may have an idea of what is bothering you, or something may not feel right.

I can provide you with a confidential space where you can explore whatever is troubling you and make sense of your thoughts and feelings. You will be listened to carefully without judgment and supported on your journey.

Through working together, I hope you will understand and accept yourself more, which can make a huge difference in how you feel about life yourself and others. You may find that this not only helps you overcome challenges in your life but helps you create positive change, leading to or ultimately creating a more fulfilled life.

Counselling sessions last for 60 minutes and can be short-term or long-term.

My first session

Before our first session, I will be in touch with you to discuss a suitable day and time for our first session.

After this is agreed you will receive an email. Attached to the email will be the counselling agreement and the type of therapy I practice. We can spend some time looking through this before we start our session.

Starting counselling can be difficult and bring on feelings of worry and anxiety, which is why I like to make sure you feel at ease and safe from the beginning. I do this by reassuring you that you are not alone and that we will be moving through our time together at your pace, building a therapeutic relationship based on trust, empathy, confidentiality and understanding.

Counselling is a way to explore anything affecting you, whether it's from the past, the present or something in the future. Counselling can help you make choices that feel right for you. I will listen carefully and respond sensitively. You will not be judged or given advice. Everything you say is highly confidential. We will provide you with safe conditions and will help you to explore and understand yourself better. Hopefully, this will help you make sense of your problems.
