About me

I qualified in 2008 and have a broad range of experience from working in a variety of mental health and wellbeing settings including delivery of services on behalf of the NHS. I latterly held the position of Chief Executive for “Mind” the mental health charity for approaching 5 years. During this time, I developed significant experience in working with older people’s services including dementia, young people’s services including grooming and exploitation along with inpatient services and addiction programmes. I have supported individuals who have been subject to the criminal justice system and have undertaken specialist training in Violence against Women & Girls and recognising and working with hoarding ( collecting).

I do not see a ‘typical’ client, you are unique, and our sessions will be tailored to you personally and without any judgement. I will support you with whatever you bring, you may want to talk about lots of complexities or have one item that is your focus, however I will remain open, as lives can become entangled meaning other concerns may creep in. I have worked with a diverse range of people, in many different settings, of different ages, genders, cultures and life experiences and use a range of therapeutic disciplines to support positive outcomes. You may not know where to begin but this is normal, in the first session we will go through a ‘contract’ designed to keep you safe, covering how we will work together also giving opportunity for you to ask questions. Then it is time to take a deep breath and start, at your own pace.

If you are ready to invest in and prioritise your wellbeing, I offer a free 15 minutes consultation. This gives you chance to ask questions and consider if you would feel comfortable working with me. After the consultation if you are ready to start, we will arrange our first appointment. The time we spend together will be yours to focus on what you want to achieve and the goals you want to reach. Together we can identify ways of managing and dealing with issues (past, present and future), increasing your confidence, self-belief, improving relationships and many other benefits. Sessions are fifty minutes long and ideally best held weekly at the same time and day for continuity.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
